new model development ??
2016 & 2017 Turnover was very similar. But the cost of sales in 2017 is much higher giving rise to a much lower Gross Profit. So in layman's talk, each unit sold in 2017 cost more to make.
New model development (i.e R&D) should not be included in Cost of Sales.
Furthermore, I would also be worried by the lack of grown in Turnover....

Correct, new model development costs are capitalised and written off over the lifecycle of car.TP321 said:

We do know the main cause of that. The Company implemented a new ERP system at the start of 2017 that resulted in virtually no production in January and disrupted production in February. The All Conquering Knowledge said:
Wonder if the cost of tooling up for 720S and 2 production lines is in cost of sales somewhere.
I know its capital expenditure but something is adding to the cost of sales.
Accountants will be cooking the books to avoid tax for sure
Cooking the books implies fraudulent activity so I suggest you delete this post so as to best avoid any perception of libel.I know its capital expenditure but something is adding to the cost of sales.

Seriously? Posting depreciation into cost of sales? I don’t think an auditor would need Ben Affleck to find that one

Exactly, they should have asked Elon Musk how to start and grow a profitable niche car business.
Take a closer look at Tesla1) he didn't start it
2) he is up to his ears in debt
3) he has massive funding from US government
4) he is selling less than 30% of his projections
5) Tesla is a long way from ever making a profit
McLaren are working hard to solve their issues, let's not forget they are only 6 years old in car mass production and continue to innovate and break boundaries
I thought The Surveyor was being sarcastic so I didn’t respond.
Tesla is surviving on the fumes of a tech bubble rally and the exhalations of its spellbound fanboys who continue to confuse the company as a growth tech story rather than a hugely capital intensive car making business. They seem to think Tesla products are akin to the iPhone.
Most people don’t even understand that Tesla doesn’t own the battery technology it uses for its vehicles. It’s Autopilot software is lagging behind the competitors. It has mountains of debt and a serious impending cash flow problem.
And there is also that chap Elon running the show.........
