Just be aware that the dealer spread on any of those cars at that price is probably £20k, so if you bought it tomorrow at 160k and asked the dealer to bid for it straight away I doubt they'd bid more than £140k...point being if the car itself didn't drop much money over 2 yrs( wishful thinking in itself with a Mclaren!) when you come to trade it in that's when the real hit comes. Of course you can always sell privately but I'd imagine that would be a total pain with a car of that value. That orange one above was incredibly specced £100k of options!

My offer wasn’t insulting but now reading the above it seems the chap has already lost a fortune on the car so is sticking to his price

I’m fully aware the car will still depreciate in March and going forward but as I said above money doesn’t come easy to me and I can’t afford just another 10k, don’t get me wrong I’m fully aware of the loses and costs involved with this type of car has but if I can minimise that I’ll be happy ??
How long you have looked into the McLaren marketplace?

You would be doing very well if you only lost £20k on a 720 purchased now as apposed to this time next year....hell, the current owner has dipped nearly £30k in listing price from when i first seen it for sale 8 months ago, and thats if he sells it for the full £160k.

This time last year, 650 spiders ranged from one or two at £115k up to £145k with most in the middle ground....now, nobody should expect to get £100k for one as mid nineties seems to be the baseline.

A year ago, 720 spiders were £285k...even with vastly reduced production, 720 spiders can now be had from Mac dealers in the low £190s; by spring these shall most likely be listed at £175k with deals to be made in the £160's which just pushes the 720 coupes down.

In just a years time I feel top dollar for that 720 in napier will be £130k tops.

I love the brand and have a Mac, so not talking down values; just being a realist.

However, when furlough stops, there is a real chance the wheels might just fall off; in that case all bets are off.

I’m not sure about this.
How many people currently on furlough will be looking at buying a sports car? Or a house?

Thanks for you input, my thought process was that surely the 720 can’t keep dropping at the rate it has been and doesn’t there become a point where it’s worth more in parts if this is the case ?!

Unbelievable considering what you get for your money !! but I totally agree about the furlough once the government stop propping up the economy it could get extremely messy and the worst recession yet !!

It’s certainly a odd time for sure

This is true mate, the plan would of been for the car to be a keeper , but I say that at least once a year :-)

The economy rarely works in silos. Those people wont be spending money therefore impacting business owners and the wider economy. There will also likely be a tax increase hitting people that do buy 720;s and houses. Its going to be miserable.
Anyone buying a car now needs to be prepared for a depreciating asset, thats life. Buy it enjoy it.

You should always expect a sports car to be a depreciating asset.

Completely agree. I think the old world of sub 300k supercars going for way above list is gone. The million plus club will continue to climb. IMHO

As good as they are, Pistas and 720s etc should never be in that bracket in the first place; its just absurd that they were artificially driven up to that price by cheap finance etc.

+1.
Difference in the housing market is that demand is > supply

This sort of thing really annoys me. Whoever fitted the PPF needs to invest in a ruler to put the badges back on straight. These look like they were applied by Michael J Fox.

Yes, I finally remembered to check mine (MY2019 car, built May 2018, delivered June 2018).

The metalwork is there, but is harder to see as it is black. To be honest, they shouldn't have switched to silver, as it looks better in black.

What was the outcome of your software level enquiry with Hatfield? There is a theory that cars built after June 2018 have a different release, which is not backwards compatible with pre-June 2018 models. AFAIK, this is when they introduced the silver flame logo.

Still waiting regarding the software question as to why yours is different to mine, as Wayne is on holiday and his stand-in appears incapable of returning a call.

Silver tick denotes MY2019, which mine is. Yes My2018 cannot be updated to the latest software, as they have different hardware.

You said yours is also MY2019, but I do suspect its MY2020, and perhaps the silver metalwork denotes that. I'm not sure though.

It could be that MY2020 again has different hardware and software, but I'm not certain.

Excuse my ignorance but how can a car manufactured in April 2019 be a MY2020? I thought MY stands for Manufactured Year?

Edit: Doh! Just googled. it stands for Model Year.

So, camera in hand and a bit of Googling, my car which came off the production line in April 2019, is a MY2019, as denoted by the 10th digit being the letter "K".

Yes, MY = Model year.

And agreed, K denotes MY2019. So yours is indeed the same as mine (also a K).
