650s - First impressions
Discussion
Tbh I found it just too fast for road use and too nice for track use!
Swamped for a manual R8 V10 manual, which provided similar thrills but with an incredible soundtrack (i had a switchable capristo system on it).
Then moved into a V6 Exige which is probably one of the best analogue drivers’ cars I’ve ever owned!
Still think the 650s is an amazing car. Enjoy in good health!

I went the other way, R8 Plus to the McLaren. I likely would have never changed if I’d had one with the variable suspension, but the Gen 1 Plus is fixed, at “very firm”.Swamped for a manual R8 V10 manual, which provided similar thrills but with an incredible soundtrack (i had a switchable capristo system on it).

No such thing FWIW I alternate between an Atom and the 650 for track days, but lately gravitating more towards the 650. Probably my age, but I used to appreciate the feel, the manual shift and the stiff suspension in the Atom, but not any more. I’m working on perfecting left foot braking in the Mac. And really enjoying the overtakes.

Hi Guys - I’m looking for a 650s Spider. Any advice about the current cars on the market gratefully received. Interested to know which options are desirable/essential. Keep seeing ceramic brakes as an option but thought they were standard.
Just any guidance really.
Cheers!
Hi jim, ceramic disc’s are standard in the 650 and if you are looking for one, they have a nice one at Woodham Mortimer cars in Chelmsford, very low milage and a big spec.Just any guidance really.

Thats been for sale for a long time Jim, and i cannot figure out why as it has a good spec and the advert was updated recently stating it has just been serviced and had the Macwarranty extended.I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

Private sale may put some off but the near bullet proof warranty is transferable and would give total piece of mind.

Thanks for this - any idea how long ? Might be worth a cheeky offer. The advert mentions cosmetic repair ?Private sale may put some off but the near bullet proof warranty is transferable and would give total piece of mind.

I think the 1st time I noticed it was around late August as I was about to list mines; if I recall it started around the £100k mark.Cosmetic repair could be anything really...they can be a stone chip magnet on leading edges if no ppf.
They look menacing in black...just ask 12pack.
The orange ones are rumoured to be quicker though...
Its a buyers market so ensure you get the colour you want, best possible spec and a McLaren warranty; i wouldn't consider one without and at this age its an inspection at around £300+vat and just under £5k to purchase if car meets the criteria.

Thanks again - nearly every car is described as huge spec !! I’m thinking about driving it and enjoying it and not about depreciation, but as we all know life can change quickly, so I’d be grateful to hear about essential/desirable/must have options.
Cheers
Jim
It has been spoke about in detail recently on the '650 advice' thread on this forum...have a look.Cheers
