Congrats that is a crazy spec ...looking at the ad that car had £122k worth of options...quite the burn for the original owner!

It would be good to know if your May 2018 built car can accept the latest 3.4 software once McHatfield have confirmed with you.
Mystery solved. Not by the dealer, but by Woking's engineers.

The image you have shows the infotainment software, and its version number. Not the ECU or other car software.

My ECU and car systems software was updated to the latest versions.

Not sure if this will help, but my car, now sold, has VIN K33**, was first registered 1/3/19 and was probably built December 2018. It has silver swoosh.
At the time of handover in March 2019 it had two features that were not at that time in the Driver’s Handbook. Firstly, lift either up or down depending on current state was activated by a single press of the button on the end of the stalk on RHS of steering column. Still glacially slow but simple to activate.

Second, there was an interim display that came up and remained until the last tyre was up to temperature. See photo taken March 2019 showing all systems off but this hybrid display as evidenced by mph in centre, gear bottom right, but tyre display from Active Sport showing.

Lowndes, your car wasn’t by any chance the Volcano Red car being sold by Rybrook? The contrast red stitched interiors are the same and a bit unusual (i.e. they have contrast stitching without the coloured mankini stripes).

If so, I’ve just bought it. It’s quite possibly the finest used car I‘ve ever seen; I genuinely think it’s in better condition than my previous 570S was when I picked it up brand new!

Stunning, congrats.

I really like the fact so many McLarens are sold and appreciated recently.

I went to see it yesterday, collect tomorrow....very very excited about this one.

I owned a MY17 720S lats year and I have driven an MY18.....I can definitely confirm this MY2019 car feels notably, perceptibly, better in terms of quality, solidity and togetherness. It might just be luck, or it might be that this one has been exceptionally well looked after, but it is the finest example I've ever been in.

Yes that does sound like my old car. The interior is MSO which was a way to avoid the mankini. It was pretty much faultless while I had it save for the occasional key not found. In fact I hadn’t intended to sell but Rybrook contacted me in July to say they were looking for good cars. Enjoy it and keep the miles ticking over.

How amazing to have found the original owner of my new car. I'll say it again, this is comfortably the nicest condition pre-owned car I've ever see. It's also the tightest and most together-feeling 720S I've experienced (it's technically my third one....long story but one of them lasted a week).

I assume you spec'd this yourself? Really inspired; the exterior colour is out of this world, and your decision on the interior is a winner. It's funny because when collecting it today, I mentioned to the guys at Birmingham how the original owner must have really hated the mankini look to give up the free colour contrast that comes with the Performance spec, and then spend a not insignificant extra to get a bit of colour through the (very classy) contrast stitch option, in the headlining too! Lovely.

It's now tucked up in its new home and mileage is a given; the 570S that I bought new in March had nearly 6k on the clock when I traded it in this week.

Thanks all, but full credit to original owner for the lovely spec.

Just been reviewing the pictures loundes posted up late last year of this car on it's 2.5k mile European road trip; that one trip must have been the lions share of its modest total mileage. Fascinating read and good to know there's no issues with it (as mentioned above, it does feel like a very good example in my experience of these).

I think you were just unlucky.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with earlier 720s’s. It’s a bit of a myth, to coin a phrase that they were somehow Friday afternoon builds as most 2018 cars with red ticks are equally bestowed with similar build quality to 2019 cars. No verifiable discernible difference In fact.

I do though concede that 2020 cars seem to be better sorted or possibly too early to tell yet

I’m one not to just take whatever is posted online as a true reflection of a given situation but I swear I’ve seen well respected people (Thorney video maybe but don’t quote me on that) indicate earlier builds suffered from poorer build quality i.e. panel gaps, older software with more bugs. A common blogger who has a lot of Mac’s reports very few issues on all cars and they’re all later builds.

I know of one 720s owner on here who had an early car and when I saw the car, they highlighted a few gremlins. They have since changed to a later build 720s and although I must confess I don’t know the exact reason, why spend more cash to get the same car?

Although I’m not 100% sure a white swoosh car is better than a red swoosh car, If I was buying a 720s, I’d be going for a later car for sure.

Gosh that feels like a hell of a price to pay for 63 miles. Good deal for someone now though!
