New 540C vs. Used 570GT
Discussion

Please don't try to get this back to cars. We evidently just want to discuss the merits of cash/financed purchases.
Again.
for the 4th million time on PH.
Yawn.
It gets tiresome indeed. Again.

OP, you've maybe seen my thread, but I've put some details and ownership experience of my 540C in here -
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I'll do another update on it soon, hopefully next weekend
Where in the original message did he ask "Cash v Finance"
He asked "new 540 v used 570" & said he was financing it. He asked about GFV's.
You then explained in your usual condescending manor about how finance is just for the uneducated!
I think you know full well that most people who finance cars ain't got the cash at hand & this is tour way of making them feel small & you feel superior.
I suppose if you enjoy doing that then crack on!

Really?
It’s not about feeling superior at all. That’s your chip.
Most people don’t understand the relative calculation. What’s wrong with putting hard facts down so a proper decision is made?
The finance companies hate facts.
I absolutely understand why people take finance. And I definitely don’t judge them. What I do judge is people making factually incorrect statements and not understanding what the true cost is. And then spraying the forum with asinine comments - such as - “I’m not putting my hard earned cash in” or “as long as my investments make the same return as the finance rate I’m breakeven”, without considering the monthly cash flows in the total equation.
What’s wrong with a bit of education? It is abundantly clear to me from the responses you read on this forum that almost no one understands the proper way to compare the cost.
Again, where did the OP say the comments you mention above? Where did he ask "Cash v Finance" ?It’s not about feeling superior at all. That’s your chip.

Your 1st response to the OP included;
"Good luck OP but my advice would be to wait until you can actually truly afford a Mclaren"
You really can't see how that makes you sound?
Oh well, we're all different I suppose!

That does look stunning. Nice to see silver wheels for once.
How do you find the hatch? Did you try a 540C or 570S before buying? Or was it always a GT for you?
I am not a fan of dark wheels (minority I know). The hatch is fine, only use it when the frunk is full (longer trips with wife) or for carrying Dominos pizzas and larger shaped things How do you find the hatch? Did you try a 540C or 570S before buying? Or was it always a GT for you?
I drove an S and thought it was v close to the GT in Sport mode, and this is not a track car for me. As we know the performance is the same. I wanted the extras fitted to the GT, and I added a Larini exhaust afterwards
i'm trying to work out how the great economy offsets the depreciation I got 35mpg on a run to Wales and back yesterday and clocked over 12,000 miles. Running faultlessly and feels better than ever.

That is some impressive MPG, I'm getting about 26-28 with mine. I drove an S and thought it was v close to the GT in Sport mode, and this is not a track car for me. As we know the performance is the same. I wanted the extras fitted to the GT, and I added a Larini exhaust afterwards

The depreciation talk is getting a bit tiresome, although it does make me wonder at times how many miles I can comfortably put on mine...

Try pressing the right pedal harder - you’ll have much more fun

I can get much less MPG if I'm not cruising on the motorway with the speed limiter in the passenger seat. 3 weeks ago I was ripping around the mountain passes in Austria The depreciation talk is getting a bit tiresome, although it does make me wonder at times how many miles I can comfortably put on mine...
I'm not too fussed about mileage. If mine is worth £5k less due to 10k more miles then it will have been more than worth it. I'd like to think its in a sellable spec which may help.
I may be moving abroad next year and will have to sell the car and incur a stinking loss, I have accepted that too. While I wish McLaren sorted out the depreciation issue, people coming on here laughing about depreciation can mind their own business, my money, my loss, known before I got into this. When I bought I had a 3 year plan to 'balance' my savings and end up with the same financial situation plus a McLaren, I'm well ahead of schedule on that anyway. While I'm in the UK I plan to keep the car forever, thus depreciation will not be an issue

You are clearly doing something wrong with that mpg

Trust me, it does a lot less when I'm having fun. But as a GT car I bought it for daily trips on the motorway too, 80-85mph cruise on the M50/M5/M42/A46/M69 gives this kind of economy. If I need to go to my office its 100 miles each way down past Heathrow, the GT spec gives me the comfort and gadge I want for that kind of use.Try pressing the right pedal harder - you’ll have much more fun
