I joined the McLaren club, and put a deposit down on a 570s spider. Thanks to all here who helped me in my search with their views, opinions, comments, guidance and perspectives. Buying a car in these times is a tricky proposition and it's been made easier thanks to many of you on here. All the details to finalise, but the deal is done.....

thanks all. Taken a lot of mental gymnastics to get my head around purchasing such a thing without the usual visiting and driving. It has the spec I want, the extras I want, and a deal was negotiated. Once I've sorted the final finances and its passed through the workshops, I'll have to collect it - guess it'll be a couple of weeks...... Colours were tricky - see the other thread on here - but I liked this from the first time I saw it in photos. Will be adding ppf to the front post purchase, for key areas. Otherwise, nothing to do on it for a while, I hope, except find excuses to drive it!

Congrats! One of few left in the official dealer network it would seem and the only one I'd have definitely considered were it not for lockdown. I don't have the balls to purchase without a test drive!
There are no other blue ones that I can find, and whilst I found a couple of good volcano orange ones I decided I didn't want that colour. I know of a good white one for sale privately, (well, it was for sale a short while ago) so email me if you want details of that.

I decided to buy without a test drive but it's taken a lot of mental angst, plus strong support from my wife, including her pointing out that, despite me wanting to take ages and agonise and test the hell out of every car-buying decision, we have actually bought four cars at a long distance and without driving first (ok, one we had a test drive in something similar). I decided that it was not going to be an awful car - glowing reports here, lots of support from people via email from here, plus testing reviews and journalists. Issues of fit, finish and mechanical issues are covered through discussions with the dealer and the warranty (2 years).

I was also considering a 458 (again, not driven one) but whilst the finance is similar, I was persuaded that I could potentially have the Ferrari in a few years but getting out of the McLaren may be more tricky then smile

one q for the experienced owners on here that have bought used - what level of stone chips etc. should I be prepared to expect on a used car? I know getting McLaren paint fixed is expensive - should they bring it all back to perfection, or is some slight smattering of road rash to be expected?

Said "it's not a new car you're buying"

am now wondering what that covers. They have been keen to reassure me that it'll be great, but in vague terms.....

So, update - which is not quite what I wanted..... car fund rapidly decreased in value in the week after doing the deal and what with having to put funds into Covid-19 affected business as well, had to pull out :0(

From what I can see it's been sold now so don't feel bad about having to come out, but slightly sad that I'm not getting that car. But it's a discretionary purpose and no point in being stressed about affording it. Plan is to rebuild the fund up and then relook once the finance is in place and secure.....
