Musk is being really silly.

ok - so a 'thai bride slur'? ie age gap. 40 year old and 63 old

Musk's current girlfriend is 30, Musk is 47......
Loathing to get involved in this aspect but if you were a bright lad like Musk and with all the resources in the world at your fingertips then after screwing up with the first tweet is there not a good chance you’d have picked up the phone to a fixer to do some digging? I’m not sure such a man would have just sat there and done nothing?

There is a sense of theatre, danger and magic/illusion, that makes Tesla fun to follow. Those quiet individuals are nowhere near as fun to follow on twitter. And are not blowing up spaceships on ocean rafts.

But one of Musk's stated aims is to accelerate EV adoption faster than it would otherwise occur if big auto were left to their own devices, building hybrids etc. And a big part of this is drumming up noise and interest in a highly desirable product. Sure track mode and FSD is a bit of a con, but if it raises interest and accelerates adoption, then it serves the end goal.

Would interest in EVs be so high, if the best selling EV was a Leaf, with just concept cars from VW knocking around, whilst they wait for the numbers to make sense?

I’m inclined to agree. Without Tesla or similar the industry would be running with just hybrids to meet legislation. I don’t think we’d have the i-pace or the others that are coming this early, so far ahead of infrastructure.

In part I think you may be correct, what is clear is that politics and governments are also to blame if you look at Solar power air is the rich and wealthy who were in the main early adopters with good buy in tariffs, then the second wave with reduced buy and n tariffs and the government looking to remove the buy in tariffs. If every household had battery storage and solar/wind the big energy compani s would go to the wall. Taxation for energy would have to change also the energy companies have no control over how much energy you place into the grid it’s complex and political.

Panel gaps still look iffy AF.

The nearside door handles were slightly misaligned on this one too.

One of the big appeals of the Tesla concept is to have a powerpack on the side of your house that can be filled using domestically produced electricity and then used to run the home and car. Conceptwise we are there but economically a long way off. And as you say, a significant shift to home generation in a country like the U.K. will need a change in the way tax is currently generated. But it seems fair to assume that the utilities will become battery vendors/renters in due course.

He's deliberately inciting them to take legal action, what does he hope to gain? At this point I don't think anyone can deny Musk has some serious mental issues.

world wide publicity of the cave diving expert guy telling Musk his mini-sub idea was stupid, and to shove it.. Musk's ego (and not a cave diving expert) couldn't handle that - so stupid tweets. simple. ego maniac?

His father is 72 and he has a baby with a 30 year old. Where does Musk get off calling out some 63 year old and his 40 year old wife.

The 'girl' the father had the child with is his step daughter. He has been her step father since she was FOUR. It's disgusting and no different to incest in my book.

And Elon had a very public falling out about it and disowned him...

The writing is on the wall. We will see who is correct.
"In terms of price, the new Merc will reportedly be in the same range as Tesla’s $49,000 Model 3—though it is of course an SUV rather than a sedan"

Does that mean it is making 3s faster than it is selling them?

Bodes well for later months if so - as it gets to grips with fulfilment, those numbers might increase

Commitment to profit & positive cash. Essential to hit both to give some breathing space on bonds etc.

Tesla sold almost the same number of cars+trucks as BMW North America in August, and out sold Mercedes.

Bare in mind the Model 3 is still production constained even without the cheaper version Tesla will end Q4 2018 selling more cars than BMW in North America.

BMW North American sales apparently fell 18% YoY in August, no idea about how BMW sales are going but if trend continues BMW will start feeling some serious issues. Am not sure any car company can withstand near 20% drop in sales in a 12 months period.

That's USA sales not included those sent to Canada. Another estimate says over 20k model 3s to USA

Why the blinkered focus on north America? BMW and the other manufacturers are global companies, so why not post global sales figures?

Because it's USA sales data from USA on a model they pretty much only sell in USA so far?

And once Tesla start European/Asia Model 3 delivery do you think the figures will look any different?

It’s almost as if they have 500,000 pre-orders! rofl

The spin by these journos is farcical. This really is Daily Mail level low IQ target reader stuff. You’re comparing the fulfilment of a pre-order book with open market sales. It’s doesn't compute.

As every 3 off the line has been pre-ordered what that data does tell you is how many 3s are being built a week and the rate of growth towards the delayed and essential 10k/week figure. So it suggests that in August they were approaching 5000/week which should be encouraging. That’s probably around $1/4bn gross revenue/month?
