If you don't have a charger already then time to get some quotes in and get one installed. Also start looking at EV electricity tariffs and doing the maths to see if they will save you money.
Thanks, we have a charger as we had a Zoe for 5 years. However it's definitely time to revisit, especially on the tariff side

So an update. We ordered a 77KHW blue Born (to Mrs Bert's spec) and were settled for a Sept/Oct delivery. However, one has "come into stock" of the right colour and only a slight variation on spec. I assume a cancelled order. So it looks like we will be proud Cupra Born drivers some time around the end of the month!

ETA we need to make sure it's on the new reg from March 1st!
Not that it's of any interest, but here's an update which is rather strange. The Born was in the UK and we had pencilled in a collection date for today having done all the paperwork. I've been away so contacted the dealer yesterday. Sales guy's day off, but got a message back that the car has not been shipped to the UK yet, so we may get it around the end of the month (or may not).

I won't name and shame, but I am completely underwhelmed by the selling dealer. When we went to test drive they had one in stock, then they didn't (fair enough cars get sold). Then we got an estimated delivery date to order. So we ordered and "to be on the safe side" the delivery date estimate slipped back by 3 months. Carried on with the order. Then got a message they did have a stock one in the UK (had a couple of extra bits over what we wanted) which I firmed up the order on. Delivery was due to be end of Feb. I delayed that to get the new reg. Now apparently, it's not even in the UK. The sales guy is nice enough, but I have never encountered such a lacklustre and shoddy new car buying process! Hey ho, I'll phone him today to see what's what. My guess is that they sold the car they had to someone else with a second one on the horizon (well technically in a far off land over the horizon!). I wonder what spec it is?

But I'm sure it'll be fine and Mrs Bert is very pleased to be getting a new electric car. Gets me super-mega brownie points - I was at an all time low having bought a Caterham BDR project car. I need a good positive balance though as I am now on the track of a part restored (real) March 761!

There are many issues throughout the motor trade currently, the manufacturer who I sell for is having problems however are in a better position to VAG group, there are constant delays with cars, mis-information and haulier and logistic issues, in my 20 years doing this job I have never experienced it so badly.

They wouldn't have sold the car to someone else, it is all just caught up in the current shot show, this is also not exclusive to the motor trade.
Thanks for the reassurance. It is hard to comprehend the car being here in the UK for delivery before the end of Feb changing to it's not here at all. But if that's what's going on across the industry, that makes it easier to deal with!

Oh, and on the subject of tariffs, OVO have recently rolled out their Drive Anytime offering. 10p/KwH for EV charging. I need to look into the finer details, but it seems like you connect the Born's app and Ovo's Drive Anytime App together so they know when you're charging at home and how much is being put into the EV. Then they credit your bill for the difference between the 10p rate and whatever your standard house tariff is at.

It requires that you give it control over when they charge, i.e. at lower demand or excess generation periods. Interesting and worth a look.
Thanks, will investigate, looks interesting

Bertbert, did you have any joy in getting them to move away from the list price, or no joy in that respect?

I drove one a while ago and liked it, apart from the ride quality being a bit on the poor side (although the roads here are horrendous so not entirely the cars fault), and I've been tempted since. My new job is all town driving so an EV would tick the box for me as my only longer distance trips are all on public transport so range for longer journeys isn't an issue at all for me.
Sadly not, I think I ordered at the start of the market change when the leadtime was still 6-9 months and deals were not on the table.
I think that maybe now it's possible especially if you get someone like Carwow to get them to pitch deals to you.

Thanks for the useful info, very interesting . We have no idea where ours is. The one that was a cancelled order and in the country for a delivery before the end of Feb seems to have vanished. Which by huge coincidence is what happens to the salesman whenever I phone. It all feels like a ruse to get a confirmed order made, but I'm sure its just Cupra ineptitude. Says it's been built for two months now, but not left Spain because of some issue. Not sure I want that car! Hey ho.

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks, just had the call that mine is built and ready to travel over from Spain.

We test drove in the rain and Mrs Bert who drove didn't complain about the wipers, so I assume they are ok even if LHD.

I have to say that the buying experience has been plain weird. But it looks like we are very close. A Born is now at the dealer and the plan is to collect on Monday. It's not quite the spec we first ordered. We wanted a heat pump to be told they weren't being done any more. So we ordered without.

Then a cancelled order came up with a heat pump and the L tech pack where we only wanted M. But that sounded fine, especially as we'd wanted the heat pump. Anyway that car never arrived.

Now "ours" is here with the heat pump and the L pack and the sales guy is insistent that's what we first ordered! It's all very strange. And apparently, even though I have paid £1k of my £10k deposit, I still have to pay the whole £10k to then get refunded £1k afterwards - nuts!

Let's hope after all that nonsense, the car is straightforward and great!

Update nextweek!

Well the euphoria didn't last long. Got a call to say that the car has failed the PDI as it has a bit missing. The bit is on back order and may be months away. The sales guy didn't know what the bit was, although I've phoned back and asked to find out what the bit is.

I was apoplectic as I've now paid my full deposit, found a buyer for Mrs Bert's polo which I now have to undo. Should I ask for my deposit back?

Utter st shower.

Got an update by phoning back on Friday late pm to ask what is actually missing. It turns out that it's nothing missing, but the coolant pump is not working as it should. This might be fixed with a software update this coming week or a replacement pump in the distant future.

I do have a conspiracy theory though biggrin I've told this story before. We ordered back towards the start of the year with a notional leadtime of October. Then in feb we got a call about a built car that was coming over to the spec'ish (cancelled order). In it the first week of March. But for no known reason, that car didn't arrive so we went back to waiting.

Now "our" car has arrived. Here's the conspiracy theory bit... the car is not the spec we originally ordered, but the spec of the cancelled order that never arrived (specifically with heat pump and L tech pack - our original order was M pack and no heat pump, the paperwork was revised to that spec as we are happy with the variation).

So I'm now curious about the build date. Is there any way of finding out? Is it Feb or May? Not that I mind provided we get one that works at some point!

Well, some progress made. I contacted the dealer and said I wanted to cancel. Cue lots of scurrying around and the location of a replacement coolant pump (presumably nicked off another Born) to be fitted tomorrow and pickup Saturday. Sales guy I had been dealing with has left the business. Loads of paperwork arrived today. I have a reg and I think it might actually happen - at last.

Roll on Saturday!

Bert

And today a parcel arrived that contained a hamper with the message "thanks for giving us the chance to get it right". Wasn't expecting that, I'm not all that keen on hampers, but it was a nice touch.

And so, we have our new born. There's lots to say, mostly good, some disappointing.

But the car itself is fab, just a lovely car to drive, smooth, capable, comfortable. I'm guessing it'll be great when there's a chance to give it some beans too.

First impression of the controls on the touch display... Mesmerizing, stupid, complicated.

But what a great car!

The sales person unwittingly told me they always send hampers after the car purchase, just sent it early this time. And there was me thinking it was a special special gesture biggrin

Looks like my ranting got a coolant pump at the expense of someone else, sorry whoever that was.

Hopefully it won't give more trouble.

On another topic, what does the heat pump do? I've got one but not sure why!!

Do they still have the left-hand drive windscreen wipers?
Just coming back to this now having a Born to check. They are not LHD wipers. They park in the middle and open up to both sides if that makes sense? They do a great job and don't leave an upswept area for the RH driver which LHD wipers would do.

I think people have referred to them as LHD because they sweep the left side first, then the right.
I guess technically true as the lh wiper is parked above the rh one. But not like pepper lhd wipers that park on the right and leave a big unwiped area in front of the rhd driver!

Thought I'd resurrect the thread to check in with an issue we've got.

The infotainment system has gone completely mad. It keeps calling out to the breakdown phone number, flashing different screens, flashimg the warning lights above the mirror and keeps clicking as if a button is being pressed.

Mrs Bert is refusng to drive it and it's been booked into the service dept of the dealer with a 10 week lead time!

Anyone else had this?

Thanks both, yes tried the press and hold and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Sometimes it all works ok or it's mad for a few minutes and then settles.

I've tried getting the breakdown guys to recover it, but they said take it to the dealer. I've not tried to convince them that it's undriveable yet, so might try that.

Was hoping the dealer would step in and sort something, but they are very poor. The service guy says nothing I can do (you've got an appointment in what's now 4 weeks time) and the sales and management guys are always with customers and don't phone back.

Just been out for a short drive in the Born after it stood on the drive for a week unused and nothing went wrong at all!

They'll never manage to fix it.

Are you running the 1940 update? That supposedly fixes a lot of bugs. Your fault has been reported a few times on the MK4 Leons. Sometimes the update fixes it, while others have had a new SOS module.
That all sounds very interesting! The service dept said they checked and we were running the latest software, but don't know the version. Do you know how I find it? If there are others with the same problem, then maybe there's some hope! It's just really annoying to have to wait 10 weeks to get it looked at!

Had a chat with someone more senior at the dealership who discussed with service dept. There is (in his words) a massive software update to do. Got offered an earlier date but without a courtesy car. Seems they want the car for a few days, so will keep to the original date.

At least they tried to help out. They are completely inundated and it sounds like the update is a nightmare. They took 5 days to do an ID3 as it kept crashing!

This has all gone horribly wrong.
