What are the main differences between old & new model leafs?
The new one has:
- optional battery lease (with lower purchase price)
- optional 32A 7kW AC charging - note: when you order the 32A charger, you don't get the regular 3 pin 10A charging cable frown
- bigger boot (they moved the AC charger to the front)
- 3 models available Visia, Acenta & Tekna (was only one model - which was close to Acenta for spec). Visia is quite basic!
- optional heat pump for cold weather efficiency
- optional heated seats and steering wheel - uses less electricity than the regular heater
- leather interior on top model (Tekna)
- lots of detail stuff like a light for the charging port
- firmer suspension for European cars
- Dark interior - depending on spec
- BOSE audio and 17" alloys on Tekna

Weight is reduced and the motor, etc is also apparently entirely new, but performance and (warm weather) range is very similar.
Bottom line: the heat pump and 32A charging are the big changes - but they are not on base models.

Does this mean that with the 32A not also an option to charge from 3 pin mains or you just need to buy an extra cable?

Mine only came with the Type 2 cable so if you wanted the 3 pin cable you'd have to buy that as an extra.

Yes, this is really annoying. Adding a cost option (7kW charging) removes the standard cable...
All the street chargers near where I live (Sussex) are 3 pin, and it is great to have a 3 pin charging cable for emergencies. How much do Nissan quote for a 3 pin cable now?

Not sure how much they are. I don't think I'll bother getting the 3 pin cable, unless I can get one from work.

Unfortunately not - most suppliers are offering "dumb" cables that connect an intelligent wall charger to your car. To charge your car using a regular home 3 pin outlet, you need the "brick" control unit integrated with the cable to replicate the safety switching intelligence that is found in wall charging units.
The official line is that 3 pin EV charging is being discouraged, but we are not exactly overrun with dedicated chargers in the UK and many of the early public units are 3 pin anyway...so not having a 3 pin charging cable is a big restriction IMO.

I noticed that leaves seem to be getting quite reasonable on the 2nd hand market. Might be a decent option to replace our jeep which never goes very far these days. (we used to live in the sticks, but don't anymore)

how much do they cost to run per 1000miles?

From what I've read, they are either 22 or 24 Kwh to charge fully from flat. Then Nissan say you get 100 miles from a charge, I reckon 80 miles. Then it depends how much you pay per Kwh, mines 11.3p (ish). So its about £2.71 per 80+ miles....... Is that right?.

Yes,but allow for approx 10% inefficiency in the charging, AC to DC conversion.
