one of many ripples on leather sections! These are on both doors, and a little on dash too! Only right door panel being replaced.

look at the gap increase in the silver to grey sections as they approach the dashboard.

This is very difficult to show! As some of you will know, you cannot access the front bonnet yourselves, so this pic is taken using my daughters make up mirror. This rough edge, is where the vinyl gloss black section ( which is a transfer on the protonic edition ) wraps underneath the windscreen edge of the bonnet. Mine is nit only so rough it will slice fingers! But its peeling away from the underside! All within a few months, and under 2k miles! Pretty poor for a car which cost me about £118k! These are problems you really should not experiance on what is deemed as BMW’s flagship car! Its really quite shocking!

Last picture for now! again showing a ripple in the leather! I know im moaning a lot here guys! But we all work hard, and pay a premuim to enjoy the cars we all own and enjoy. I just dont think its right that a manufacturer takes so little care in doing a pdi on its vehicle, no matter what it is, and what it costs. The manufacturers need to realise us like minded people will report things such as this to one another on forums like this one. Its my honest belief the i8 COULD be a great car! But mine falls well short of my expectation for a car worth well over £100k! I would not buy another BMW after this! And i just want those thinking about a possible i purchase to check the items i have highliged before they purchase one! I do confess! I love ( not that i can remember!! ) the driving experiance! But this is all now tainted by my recent experiences!
I drove the car throughout the winter! Snow and ice! Knowing that come spring i would be able to enjoy this car! But as it has been in the dealership since 1st week of April! Ive not had any chance to enjoy the car! ( Though i am still paying handsomely each month for the car!!!!) . I will keep you all informed as to what happens next! Back to the 320 in the morning!! Yawn!!

Its difficult to see in the pics tbh! But trust me, its not great!!! I may be a little biased, having had a few porsches. But these were A! Cheaper than my i8. And B! Built sooooo much better than the Bmw! I really would have expected more at this price point!

Wow, you have a great eye! You are right obviously but most would never notice these things i bet! Does not mean its acceptable, however.

So you think it’s acceptable do you?

It looks very poor to me and I would certainly not be happy if I had a car thrown together like that. Especially when it’s as overpriced as the i8 clearly is.

911cck, honestly I have none of the issues you describe, nor "loose buttons".

In fact I am impressed that after 3+ years there is still zero squeaks or rattles. The car is rock solid. As I said, best car I've ever owned.

I really don't understand why you didn't just eject the car if it was so bad though.

I suggest you never buy an Italian car - you would not be amused imo. Having said that, I would expect better from BMW in this respect even if I don’t care about it as much as you

Think you would expect a few issues with some italian stuff. But i did not notice most of mine when i first picked it up.

Quick question for the owners - do you have to plug the i8 in? I’m in a block of flats so that wouldn’t be practical, but I like the idea of the car...

No, you can just leave it in sport mode to charge the batteries

Plugging in only gives you 15 miles, so as been said, just drive in sport mode for a bit and that'll quickly charge the battery anyway.

That’s poor cck - have you got to the stage of emailing bmw uk? My experience with Sytners - or rather, their sales exec, was shocking; but when the car had issues & there were 3 over my period of ownership, BMW i - support was fantastic. The loan cars were an i8, a 750 M-Sport, and a X6 50M.
All delivered within hours of an issue from LCH.
My car was transported in a covered trailer and returned valeted.
Good luck
Graham.

Thanks Graham. No! Synter in Romford were hopeless at the sales stage, so ended up taking train to purchase Car from Synter Sheffield. They dont seem to bothered. Took it in for one day investigation in Colchester, which was cooper! They lent me an M3 for the day! So pretty good. But on collection, car was returned unwashed! Service guy said they dont trust tgere team to wash it!!! Wtf!! He also said they only recently got an i agency! So thats why i took it to Southend, ( Fairfield ) where its been for over 7 weeks. And i now have the most standard of specs 320i!
Bmw customer services, and there i dept have nit done anything but apologise! So no Graham, im not impressed at all!! Its still awaiting a new door skin, and vinyl sticker for the bonnet section, as mine is not painted like most i8’s ! Maybe that sticker is why its £12k more than a standard model????
