upgrade from Q4 to iX?

Nice. You should be getting the versions with the new head unit from March 2023 that will enable more features/better tech from an infotainment perspective.
Over 6 months for delivery of factory order? How times have changed. Mine took 2 months when I ordered last summer.
Yet they aren’t exactly on short supply on AT either… was there any discount up for grabs on a factory order?Over 6 months for delivery of factory order? How times have changed. Mine took 2 months when I ordered last summer.

Ref lead times - 6 months isn't great but better than most. Currently in a q4 and audi are quoting 12 to 14 months for those. Had a santa fe on order for 18 months without even a build date so that's been cancelled
Ref factory order- company car through a lease company, so no choice but to do a factory order for some reason

Sorry, but that really does look hideous! The grill...Personally like them, look.good in quite an imposing sort of way. Something different to everything else on the road that all looks so similar these days
I like it. It's the sort of car I would get "in spite" of its looks because I can see past it. It's a good all round family SUV type EV. I'm in the position where I want a replacement to my leased e-tron 55, haven't committed on a Taycan CT and think this in 50/60 guise is actually the best positioned EV for my current needs. Having taken the 48 hour demo for a weekend (albeit in a 40) I was very impressed with it, much better to drive than the Audi, spacious, comfortable, well specced and the range on the bigger battery variants is very usable indeed.
Not sure why people get so fixated on the look of the thing tbh.
The question for me is whether I take the easy option of extending my e-tron lease which will cost very little (about £450 a month ex vat gross) for a year to see what comes out in the form of other fast SUV/estate EVs or just go for one of these this year.
I do have a niggling desire to look at the i7 as well but the iX is certainly more desirable from a family/practical use perspective.

For me if the iX50 is in your range then it's the best all rounder, but 40 so might better valueNot sure why people get so fixated on the look of the thing tbh.

Another contender could be the volco ex90 - similar price to a 50 with similar power and range. But I see volvo are quoting 18 month lead times

Make sure you double check exactly what is included before placing a factory order for an iX50. Some customers have reported that air suspension (which was standard on that model) has been withdrawn for new orders at the moment. Not sure why people get so fixated on the look of the thing tbh.

The 40 needs more battery. - it’s too small for the size, weight and aero of the car, which limits range.
I went for a Polestar 3 - the £80k version comes with a 111kwh battery and all options on the iX are included as standard.
It is a small battery, but then that is reflected in the price. All depends on your usage at the end of the day, if 200+ mile trips are a rarity then why pay more for a larger battery?I went for a Polestar 3 - the £80k version comes with a 111kwh battery and all options on the iX are included as standard.
Ref the Polestar 3, lease costs (which will of course affect company car costs) are significantly higher than the ix40.
It's actually more expensive than the ix M50 on the same terms, despite a list price £23k lower.

If I buy I’ll buy in-stock as there are reasonable discounts which peaked before the end of the last quarter and will no doubt do so again. I do see the list price has risen somewhat since last Q.I suspect pre-reg or lightly used cars take a hit because they don’t come with 100% write down for business customers which will be important for many.
I would also lean towards the M60 because it comes with a bunch of options I want anyway, but a well optioned but heavily discounted 50 would make the most financial sense.
I’ve done 50k miles across two EVs in the last 36 months so have a reasonable idea of my range and overall usage requirements and do think the 50/60 is worth it in my case. Would be interesting to hear any real world range reports from PHers.

however some research showed that BMW claim 3 mile per unit of charge and alot of drivers are achieving that
in comparison my current Q4 claims 330 miles - meaning the car needs to achieve 4 miles per unit but it doesnt get close
so the iX which is alot larger, heavier and more powerful than the Q4 will achieve the same efficiency and only looses on overall range due to a approx 10% smaller battery

Experiences seem to vary. Some are getting awful efficiency with their iX40s (maybe they are all driving uphill in the cold?) however some research showed that BMW claim 3 mile per unit of charge and alot of drivers are achieving that

My experience is different. It was 5C today, but I got 3.3 miles per kwh in my iX40 (with 22inch wheels) on a 25 mile drive, with radiant panel heating on, heated seat and steering wheel. Mostly driving at 45-50mph, with a few miles of slow moving urban traffic at the end.
Most of the drive was in D, with adaptive regen on, and left it in efficient mode (which doesn't impact performance) but turns off one of the motors when it decides to coast.
I'm aware of people with the heavier ix50 in warm parts of the USA that are getting close to 4 miles per kwh on their commutes, so roll on summer here :-)

for me it was between 2 and 4 degrees today - based in NI
i did 150 miles mostly on A and B roads
Q4 in efficient mode and driving easily averaging 50mph with A/c set to Eco - i only got 3miles per kwh from the audi

1) The Polestar 3 isn't released until Q4 of this year, so there are no price deals yet. An iX40 on our SS scheme is cheaper than Polestar 2, so there are deals around on the iX..
2) Those iX's you listed are poverty spec - You need to add £13k of options to get it close to the P3 spec
[Comfort Plus £4.4k, Tech Plus £5.2k, Sky Lounge £3.6k]. ----> So, £13k (options) / 36 months (lease term) is £360 extra a month!
3) That i40 you listed is only the base 'sport' model. The M-Sport will cost more, plus the options.
Sure, if you want a short range EV SUV with a poverty spec then fill your boots !
I was tempted for 5 mins, then realised I needed more range and couldn't live without some tech and comforts.
iX40 M-Sport (no options) - 3 years | 36k miles | Insurance | Maintenance | Tyres | No initial payment : Monthly net amount £697
-> My Polestar 3 LR order is £850 per month on those same terms. Also, an iX50 with options is over £1.4k

Great thread for me. Really close to ordering the IX 40 M Sport on salary sacrifice to similar price above. Range not an issue for me as drive only 4k miles a year locally for school drops and shops. Rare long journeys and will plan a charge accordingly.
I just need the wife to sign off but there are no demonstrators available locally. I have read it looks bigger than it feels but does have an awkward turning circle?
Looks an ideal family vehicle and the amount of tech inside will keep me happy for a while and I love the kidney grill!

The turning circle on the iX40 is 13m (the iX50 used to come with rear wheel steering which reduces the turning circle, not sure if that is still available as standard feature on the iX50 this year) I just need the wife to sign off but there are no demonstrators available locally. I spend a lot of time in London and in car parks, and it's the worst aspect of living with the car. Not a deal breaker for me, it just means that there are certain car parks I no longer visit and you need to approach parking spaces a bit differently.
However, once you are on the move, then they have done a good job in making it "feel" smaller and lighter than it actually is.
I just wish the X3 looked and had the same feel as the IX. The X3 just looks so ordinary? So 13m my current car (Disco Sport) has a turning circle of 12m so this is definitely going to be a factor.
Assume it will come with some parking assistance features like 360 camera and sensors for a 75k car.

360 camera’s are in the option Parking Assistant Plus for £1k As I said above - all the good tech on the iX is in option packs.
- radar cruise
- heated rear seats
- pano roof
- comfort access
- heated steering wheel

The range and options points are subjective and completely down to the end user. If 200 miles and the base spec (not sure I'd call it poverty) fits the bill for your needs then you have that option, rather than being forced to pay for range or kit you don't want/need as with the Polestar. I don't consider massage seats, a panoramic roof or a Bowers and Wilkins stereo as being essential options personally and certainly wouldn't tick the box for them at the price being asked. But each to their own.1) The Polestar 3 isn't released until Q4 of this year, so there are no price deals yet. radar cruise - Depend how much time you spend on motorways
heated rear seats - Depends on how often you have rear passengers that aren't in car seats
pano roof - went from a Model 3 with, to an etron without. Can't say I've given it any thought
comfort access - I don't find pressing a button very taxing
heated steering wheel - never seen the need for it with cabin pre-conditioning.
IME they're nice to haves in some cases, and worthless in others depending on usage. I certainly wouldn't be paying £13k for the privelege anyway.
