BMW 330e ordered...
Discussion
Anyone had a problem with getting their 330e out of Park mode?
Had the car three week now (still only 600 miles) and love it. Until yesterday evening, that is, when it refused to let me drive it home. Roughly speaking, I pressed start/stop as normal but when it came to driving away, the car refused to go to Drive mode. Also the engine warning light was on. Several attempts at start/stop, close the door, walk away, come back, press the brake, press the accelerator, etc. and it just sat there. I gave up.
So the BWM service chappy came along, stuck his head in the boot and reset something. It then behaved a bit better, but the car *still* does not always go drive Drive mode straight away, sometimes taking three seconds before the engine warning light goes out.
I know of two 220xes that have an almost identical problem. Generic fault in BMW firmware maybe?

Hi,
I have had a recent problem, when I approach the traffic lights I apply the brakes, then park mode and the hand brake.
When ready to go foot on brake then drive mode and handbrake off.
For some reason the gear will not engage in drive mode, then suddenly it does after about 10 to 15 seconds, this has happened a few times now and I am now getting quite concerned and consider this dangerous.
Am I the only one having this problem. Thanks.

Sounds similar to the other problem described just above. I've not had this issue though.I have had a recent problem, when I approach the traffic lights I apply the brakes, then park mode and the hand brake.

Note though that Park is intended for just that - when parked. If you want to change out of Drive then just go for Neutral. Or just keep your foot on the brake. Staying in Drive and with only handbrake on will consume some battery power. Keeping your foot on the brake will prevent that (it cuts power to the motor until you lift your foot of the brake - so it is a bit slower to get moving than just handbrake). Of course, keeping the brake applied possibly annoys others behind you being blinded by your brake lights. So for longer stops I tend to use handbrake and neutral.
It won't solve your problem but it might avoid it. Could be an issue with Park in the gearbox (or control system) for example, avoiding Park might therefore avoid the issue.
Anyone had the error "mains power too low" while charging? Mine charged to 87% this morning at work before giving this error and am unable to restart the charge. Tried a different charge point and get the same error (flashes orange for a few secs and then flashes red) and does the same when I reduce the charging speed. Seems to be a known issue with the i3 from my googling...
I'm assuming it's an issue with the car since I've tried two points at the office but will try again this evening at home to be sure before going to the dealer. Car is just over a year old.

I had this exact same problem last month. Took it into the dealer and they tested it and diagnosed it as a faulty KLE, which they said is the charge control unit in the car. They ordered one in and it was fitted under warranty the next day. Solved the problem and has been charging fine since.

I'm a company car driver. I normally get them at three or pfour yearly intervals from Lex . I'm just coming to the end of the contract for the fourth one I've had. It's a 116d SE . The best, most practical and loved car I've ever had . It's predessor was a 330d. I hated that car. Uncomfortable , expensive , handled funny, depressing colour, ownership coincided with my marriage failing , stereo wasn't up to much and almost no tech.,
I live in london and my driving In terms of time is a 50/50 mix town/cross country and originally the intention was another one series , maybe a 120d. My job has changed a little and I'm going to be bombing up and done the country a little more so the intention was to treat myself a little.
And then I ordered a 330e m sport . Delivery 24.2.18!

WOW - that is harsh! I thought a 14 week wait was bad enough. Mine is due in November. Not sure how they can justify a 6 month lead time? Mind you a colleague of mine had to wait 10 months for his Merc C350e which was delivered in July this year.!! I would have told the lease company to do one if I had to wait 10 months.....

I'm guessing this is your first Auto? In any case, using parking at a traffic light is a bad habit, so try and avoid that. I have had a recent problem, when I approach the traffic lights I apply the brakes, then park mode and the hand brake.
