BMW 330e ordered...
Discussion
Have any 330E users driven their car in low temperatures (0 Deg C) without precondition.
I did this morning and the battery was at 65% as its only 1.5 miles to work so I charge there. Anyway when I set off the electric range was '---' like when the battery is fully depleted and it runs like a prius.
I set off and to the main road it was on the battery. Get onto the main road and above 20mph the engine kicks in using the electric still to boost acceleration. Decelerating it cut the engine and setting off again up to 20mph used the battery.
Got to work and its charging as per usual and the app has gone from showing '57% - 0mile range to 75% - 15mile range.
I reckon that if not preconditioned anything below 0'C it goes to hybrid / Prius mode, maybe to protect the battery charge as it is so cold...
Nothing major just thought i would share and see if anyone had the same. Hows everyone liking their 330E's?
Over 6 months and i still love it.

That's interesting. I wonder why not. Perhaps because it might not get below the 50 g CO2 threshold?
I've thinking about replacing our family car and wondering what to get. Below 50 g CO2 is important for tax reasons. But I also don't want a diesel engine.
So that rules out the Q7 e-tron and the X5 40e.
And leaves pretty much only the XC90 T8 (or the XC60 T8).
I've never though I would own a Volvo, but what else is there?

What's everyone's 'winter' EV range? Was damp and cold this morning and only got 9.5miles with preconditioning.
Fully charged this morning, showing 14 miles range (normally 19 miles in summer).Managed a 10 mile round trip with 22% remaining, so around 12 miles tops....

I’ve managed to almost get to 19 miles a couple of times, a return trip to Chester is neatly that from my home, downside is it’s uphill on the way home.... :-)
I’m quite surprised at the knock the cold has on the range. I was expecting a couple of mpg off, but realistically it’s 12 miles in low temps.
Not that that’s a major concern, I don’t pay for fuel.....

I noticed this last winter and again this year. If not preconditioned and the battery is too cold, the car will disable max e-drive until it reaches a normal operating temperature. I find if preconditioned it will run fine (but you of course don't get the range you would in the summer).I did this morning and the battery was at 65% as its only 1.5 miles to work so I charge there. Go into the vehicle status menu (where tyre pressures are) and scroll down to the hazard triangle option ("check status" I think) and it will show you a message to explain.
Re: winter range. I get anywhere between 14 and 18 miles depending on the route. Got 87% of my 20 mile commute this morning (5C temp in the dark) but that's about as good as I get this time of year. Still, getting into a nice warm car while neighbours are scraping ice off theirs is the height of smugness and one of my favourite features of the 330e!

Let’s not beat around the bush..... that is absolutely terrible for a quoted figure of 30 miles
When I researched the 330e I looked at the American ratings as the EU ones are a joke. The American ratings quote 14miles EV range and 72mpg combined which is realistic in my opinion. As most of my driving is towns with plenty of charging I'm way over 100mpg.
The most range I have had is on a steady run on 40/30mph roads in light traffic and got 22miles before the engine kicked in.

I've found the electric range temperamental in the winter. So got 10miles (full battery to start journey) Saturday with preconditioning at 5 degrees. Battery was nearly flat when I got home, so charged off the 3 pin plug using 'Low' charging rate and unplugged at 95%. The next day it's 7 degrees and I drive 6.5 miles with no preconditioning and only uses <35% of the battery.Go into the vehicle status menu (where tyre pressures are) and scroll down to the hazard triangle option ("check status" I think) and it will show you a message to explain.

Can't fathom that one out lol. Battery must like a trickle charge to full when it's (almost) flat.

1. Does anyone else have very sensitive tyre pressure gauges?
2. I know this is trivial but it's a pain in the backside that there's no place for; glasses/sunglasses.
3. Is it just my handbrake that's not very good?
4. I hate run-flats!
Still love the car after 7 months of ownership.
Don't have mine yet but2. I know this is trivial but it's a pain in the backside that there's no place for; glasses/sunglasses.

1 TPMS? I have yet to have a car that this is well conceived on, I tend not to have it on
2 Thats annoying
3 Its an Auto, why are you using HB?
4 Never had them, whats so bad? The ride? The Noise? What size wheels do you have?

1. My tyre pressure gauges seem fine, best yet after many BMWs. I really like the individual detail + ease of use with no need for a shortcut.2. I know this is trivial but it's a pain in the backside that there's no place for; glasses/sunglasses.

2. I keep my pouched sunglasses in the front of the glovebox, don't see that as an inconvenience tbh. Driver door pocket would do me otherwise.
3. No issues with the handbrake, and it is a proper handbrake. Had an electronic parking brake on a 5 series before, hated it.
4. Unlike many, I love run-flats and always have. But not Bridgestone in my experience. Running 19" F1s now, excellent.
1.5 years in and still happy. Which is unusual for me
