I set myself up for that didn't I?

Some batteries 'go to sleep' after standing for a period of time. This is to conserve power. What happened in the past, with some cars, mostly Model 3 and MG, was that the chargers would activate at night but the cars would not accept a charge as they were 'asleep'.

To counteract this the chargers push a little bit of power into the cars every so often to keep them awake so that they can ensure they will accept the main charge.

It's better to have your charger 'on' and then the car to decide when it will accept the charge, not the other way around.

It's taken a while, mainly down to six week wait for supply to be unlooped, but Hypervolt installed yesterday.

Clearly still early days, but installation was quick, looks good and charged the car last night at north of 7kW. smile

Some features of the app/website are in beta, such as time slot charging tariffs - while you can enter the time slots and they're honoured by the charger, the app is reporting cost at flat rate. I'm assured it won't be long before the actual calculated costs are included.

An update from me…

No Fuel Needed have pulled the plug on my installation and allegedly others too, as they weren’t receiving the grant kick back, which presumably covers their installation costs and margin?

So now I’m back to square one, so have made an application with Pod Point instead.

All the paperwork is complete and credit card details supplied, so second time lucky hopefully…
Their install prices were pretty low - did they not realise how long it takes for the OLEV money to come through or what?
Well it makes you wonder.

They also cocked up on the application form, by putting the wrong house name which wouldn’t have speeded the permission through, as the meter reference l wouldn’t tie up to the property.

Pod Point seem better, you complete the form yourself, payment details etc up front. I’ll feedback how their process goes, but it seems better from where I am now and only £75 more the NFN.
Further update from me.

PodPoint forms all completed on Friday pm.

Email this morning requesting specific installation info, consumer board, meter box etc. All completed and returned.

Installation date of 12/8 just received and accepted.

Have to say I’m impressed after NFN of cocking the whole thing up and then washing their hands of me frown

At last, had our L2 charger installed yesterday!

Its a Grizzl-e L2 charger with 30A and 7.7kw capability, so hardly the fastest in the world, but its what the i3 can cope with. Went with the Grizzl-e because it can go up to 10kw and 40A, but no need as the i3 cant accept that anyway. Its not a smart charger or anything, just plug and go but can adjust charging via the car / app anyway. I am not on time based cheap electricity, so doesnt matter.

Impressed so far. Spent a year with a 120v plug in charger and had a few times that the BMW app would say that charging would take 15+ hours! Not good. My daughter ran it down to 2% a couple of weeks ago and it took 20+ hours to charge. Charged from 70% to 100% in just over an hour but totally understand that the last 10% takes an age, so impressed.

Why didnt I have this damn thing installed earlier - game changer....

What is the smallest most discrete unthethered home charger currently available? Got an XC40 recharge coming in a couple of months and the Volvo wall box (NewMotion Home Fast) looks a bit chunky.

Either the EO or Sync EV charger is slightly smaller

SyncEV. The EO Mini Pro 2 looks the same size, front on, but is a fair bit deeper than the SyncEV. The SyncEV is pretty much the smallest a charger can possibly be due to the size of the charging socket.

Sorry, you're just a bit too far away from us. Call Craig at SyncEV and he will put you in touch with someone local to you.

This might be the right place to ask, I recently used a Porsche branded charger at a hotel. The plug and cable felt like the cheapest plastic crap I've held in ages.

It didn't feel right at a charger that looked like it wasn't cheap (maybe because of the branding), anyone used one of these before? Maybe it was a replacement cable and plug?

Charger looked like this, not my picture:

Browsing through the pictures online I think I found the reason. It's just a shroud for their mobile charger. That might explain why the cable felt too thin and the plug too flimsy for a wall mounted box...

Question - we have a 7.something and a 3.something but in the wrong places - can we just swap them around?

Depends on the supply to each. If the 3. Something has a cable and breaker suitable for the 7. Something, then probably, otherwise you need to fit a larger cable/breaker. Bottom line, consult a sparky.

Spark will sort it, it never mattered before but now we have a big battery car to charge on cheap rate 4 hours I’ll want it on the 7.? Charger.

Yep, but have you seen how much they want for it?

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUHYBSHELF....

Suncoast are the best place for OEM parts at a reasonable price (there does seem to be a bit of price fixing in the US). My L2 charger I just got was half of what you would pay for the case, never mind the charger!
