Why are used Audi e-tron so cheap?

I just browsed the Audi approved used site and found the one with a combination of low miles and low price.

Lowest price doesn’t automatically mean lowest amount a month, because of the lower residuals on a higher mileage one.

How are you getting the costs to work out like a new lease? Is there a balloon in 18 months?

Yeah there’s a large balloon at the end.

Either pay the balloon off to keep the car, or hand the car back with no costs which is what I’ll be doing.

Had a close look at them as I shortlisted it 5 years ago.
Back then it looked like a HUGE car on the outside, with relatively "small" boot.

My main turn off was looking at the consumption. Even then they were hugely inefficient compared to the competition (only Tesla and Jaguar), which brings a slew of problems wrt to range and charging. Their great charging curve (as posted before) couldn't make up for it when traveling the continent.

Considering depreciation and if you need a big secondary car, it's about the best thing you can get though. Plenty of poke and road presence, relatively low running costs.
If the same price, I wouldn't get one over a Model S or I Pace. The I Pace is a bit smaller still but ime a better drive, and the Model S beats it on all fronts except interior plastics.

Personally I'd spend a bit more and get a well specced HSE - because that what I used to have and if I got another one with bits missing I'd regret it!

Although as a special mention I would really miss the fantastic sound upgrade that comes as standard with HSE, that was epic.

In reality though, whatever spec and budget, they're all absolute bargains now.

In case it helps anyone, the Audi extended warranty for an etron is £600 per anum with a £100 excess. I thought this was decent value.

I spoke to a chap at a warranty company to ask if there was an option to also cover the battery - he said no but that they're working on such a product but need more data. Out of interest does the Audi warranty cover the battery if it's beyond its own warranty period?

Battery aside, when I was looking at buying a used EV I noticed that third party warranty quotes were all really low, even the belt and braces top tier options were all around the £500 mark for the cars I was looking at. I guess that reflects the fact that battery aside, there isn't very much properly expensive stuff to go wrong.

^ yeah, would only be needed from 2028 onwards or more relevantly for cars which are passing 100k miles, of which there are so far only a handful I think.

Indeed, but also there's a mileage limit. I'm thinking about how cheap early model S etc are now, of the entire car incl battery could be covered by an affordable warranty then that would make for a very good value, worry free car.

This is the Audi warranty - was comprehensive in its terms. Less to go wrong as you rightly say.

Which is why I don’t understand why everyone recommends to get an extended warranty. What are you covering exactly?

I have three cars out of warranty now including the I-Pace. Sure if something big goes wrong it’s bad but this is extraordinarily rare in my experience. The margins on aftermarket warranties are usually super high so the business case for just sucking it up is good. Touch wood obviously.

if you can cover the cost of a big repair without any financial stress then arguably you don't need one.

Without a warranty I'd spend time and effort trying to find a cheaper fix - with a warranty I can just get problems sorted without thinking about it.
