The fine is 'only' 100m EUR or so. Small change... https://www.businesslive.co.za/bd/companies/indust...
I really don't see 100m EUR being much of an issue to them.
Who does the emissions fine go to? The EU? Isn't that basically the Germans?
It's laughable really that some see VW as some sort of imminent disaster unable to react to situations like a pandemic, economic downturn, move to EV's etc... they'll manage.

“Based on preliminary figures, Volkswagen Passenger Cars has exceeded the ambitious European CO2 fleet targets for 2020 and produced around six million grams fewer CO2 than required by law. The passenger car fleet of new vehicles in the European Union achieved average CO2 emissions of 92g/km – the legal CO2 target for the brand was 97g/km. As a result, CO2 emissions fell by 22 percent compared to the previous year.”

Don't care enough to investigate but it says Volkswagen Passenger Cars, so will exclude all the other non-passenger vehicles they sell and may also just mean Volkswagen rather than VAG group.
Just looks like a positive PR piece.
Yes I think you’re right, it’s just VW not including all the others in VW group.Just looks like a positive PR piece.

Then proceeds to investigate we’re a weird bunch. In other news , Tesla roof panels continue to fall off. Model X this time.
So far we have bumpers falling off in the rain, entire glass roof on a Y falling off on the drive home from pick up, Model X roof panels falling off randomly and the only control for the car on an S and X crapping out for which Tesla had to be forced into paying for a recall.
Not bad really, I’ll forgive the wonky panels, goldfish bowl tail lights and fires ‘cause they’re only a young company apparently,
FSD release is now going to be “auto steer on city streets” and only in the USA. Bit like summon where you have to practically hug the car to get it to work.
Why are people still buying these cars?
I wonder what the share price would go to if they actually said how self driving is coming along really?

I think the fact that people KEEP buying them shows you how inferior other car companies are in comparison. In other news , Tesla roof panels continue to fall off. Model X this time.

We are still waiting for a viable model 3 competitor
Hint- the id3 isn’t one of them.

I think they're falling well short of the ICE competitors which is why people still buy them by the bucket load instead of Tesla cars still. They could do so much better, the rabid attacks on any detractors seems to actually be holding them back from improving quality. We are still waiting for a viable model 3 competitor

As for the ID3, it's a competitor for the Golf segment isn't it. Tesla don't make a car in that segment.

Ford were poking fun recently
Darren Palmer head of Ford EV recently said:
[buy a Mach E instead of a Tesla because]
"The doors fit properly, the plastics and other materials color-match, the bumpers don't fall off, the roof doesn't come off when you wash it, the door handles don't get stuck in cold weather," he said.

Look at the numbers in terms of price. In their price brackets, Tesla have a high market share.

It doesn't help that anecdotal evidence, often years old, gets pulled into the conversation either.Smiljan said:
That could backfire so easily on them if they get any issues later on. Mach-E seems decent enough, maybe a Model Y alternative?
When it was announced it seemed like it was going to be a 3-way battle between the Y, Polestar 2 and Mach E.The numbers on the Mach E do seem like it's made with the Y squarely in it's sight.

What, that a company would rather do extra quality checks rather than send a memo to their staff to say don’t bother, just ship the things? I know which of those two company cares more about their customers

Said it before and will keep saying it - because Tesla's are the safest, most efficient and complete all around package for an EV. Being completely objective, they are, on most levels, the 'logical' choice if you want an EV. Given the incentives and move to greener transport, it does make a lot of sense. But, that doesnt alter the poor and inconsistent build quality, the less than perfect driving dynamics and many other things. Now that other manufacturers are coming on stream, competition is here. But it doesnt remove my initial comments though - but when has objectivity been the primary reason for purchasing a car....

You can’t market your way out of a stty product

And being the first into a market doesnt always mean long term success either! Plenty of examples of the first to market doesnt last or become the market dominant. You are in a better position to capitalize and monetize the market, but its not guaranteed. You can’t market your way out of a stty product
