Doh! Had to click on 'all'. What makes you think they will take an hour to charge? I thought all the DC rapid chargers are 30 mins?

lol, I probably could have phrased that better hehe I meant that, with them being Chargemaster rapids, there will likely be a payment required to use them unlike ecotricity which are free.

I think all 15 might be in MK!

But why say "Between Oxford and Cambridge"?

Just starting to look at the practicalities.

Of course availabilty and access to charge points will improve, but I'm pleased I've opted for the REX.

May even carry a spare 10l of fuel if I'm travelling far.

But my return commute is 50 miles so with an overnight charge the use of REX should not be required under normal circumstances.

More info on the Chargemaster/Polar tariffs which come into effect on 1st April.

http://www.chargemasterplc.com/index.php/polar_onl...

That's sounding pretty expensive to me.

It seems that quite a lot of owners rely heavily on public charging, I've seen one LEAF owner say he's done 50k miles purely from rapid charging. My own gameplan is to do all my charging from home, I'm too lazy to put up with the multitude of potential issues with public charging. Apart from the usual ICE'd/broken/busy issues I don't even want to have to wait the 30 mins for a rapid charge.

I'll use public charging when it's convenient e.g. when parked up at a shopping centre but for the long distance journeys I'm just going to be doing the splash & dash with the REx which should only be a couple of times a month and even then it's only used for the last part of the journey when the battery is out of juice.

Thanks for the info mids. I think that the App based instant charging method will be best for me. 99% of the time I will be home charging, and it just doesn't seem worth the £20 subscription for the handful of times I will need to charge away from home.

3 years ago I had a pre-production Electric Smart on lease with no fast charge facility. The charging infrastructure was more sparse then in any case. I used home charging and it worked well. Charging overnight was more convenient than a petrol car requiring refueling. My journeys were short - commuting to and from a station or into town - Birmingham. I charged every two or three days.

I do believe the answer at present is the REx concept. The motorway fast charge stations are not sufficient for more than the occasional use by EV owners and you are stuck if one does not work on a journey. I have only used the public charge points with the I MiEV for my journey from Brighton to Birmingham.

Just too expensive, as these point have already been heavily subsidised by the government. Next thing the smart meters they want us all to have will differentiate the car charging and we will be taxed on the electricity we use to charge the cars at a different rate. This is the slippery slope of the EV vehicle. So BMW selected charge master as there prefered company and must have agreed to this nonsense.
