If the auto wipers don't wipe often enough to your liking, just hit the button on the LH stalk whenever you feel they should wipe and they don't, that'll teach'em. I'm serious.

OP

400 mile round trip is what the M3LR was built for IMO.

Best way to do it, IMHO, is to set off fully charged then supercharge for maybe 15 minutes at the 100 mile point on the outbound and then same again on the return.

Then charge the car when you get home.

In reality you could probably get away with just one charge stop too especially in summer.

Sound like you’ve figured them out perfectly, they’re an in-joke by Tesla.

I’ve done a few 1,000 mile trips and it’s absolutely fine. Just follow what the satnav says and it will tell you where to charge and how much. You don’t have to think about it. The car does it all for you.
I was in the south of France last year at a Eurocamp.
I had a nice chat with an old couple that drove their Model 3 from The Netherlands, a total of 850 miles. They didn't plan much, an overnight stop half way there just for a nice break. Pretty much just let the car pick the best route.

Took advantage of the Tesla extended test drive (2 hours) at Saltmarshe Hotel.
Had a '24 plate Model Y (standard range) and did a couple of motorway runs at my normal pace (75mph) and average 285 wh/mi which I thought was decent.

Really impressed with the build quality and overall package. I have looked at an Ioniq 6, but I think a Tesla is still top of the pile. Still need to work a few things out with my company car and finances (cash, PCP or lease).

I've been looking at test drive locations. Saltmarshe is about 20mins from me, but it's a bit of a random location to say the least?! When I initially looked into it the test drive was about 30mins?

Random is an understatement!
Yes, should be 1 hour but when I spoke to their rep, I asked for 2 hours to test on the motorway and it was fine. They send the testdrive info to the Tesla app and you use that to unlock the car etc.

Have they followed up with you about the test drive, with a hard sell? I'm possibly looking to get an EV in 12-18months but I'm keen to test drive one.

There's no hard sell, at all. One phone call and a text message asking if you had any questions.

I think if you book the last test drive of the day you can have the car overnight. Well, that’s what happened to me when I turned up for my test drive at Brent Cross…they just said bring it back before 9am tomorrow.

Was that at a 'manned' location, IIRC at Saltmarshe there's no staff?

The nav sent to Rugby!

Not had EV before, impressed how it tells you availability etc & facilities.
Will be here for an hour ish to fill up.
Impressed by the car, it’s a 22 model LR.
Quiet enough, the wipers are a bit annoying on auto or so haven’t figured them out yet.
All good apart from that.
Better look for a hotel for later !
One quick thought - I know it's after your trip, but when the battery is over around 80% the charge speed starts to dip down quite markedly. This can mean that you're quicker to just unplug and crack on, with a view to charging again later. You'll likely be done quicker.

Of course if you aren't waiting for the car (e.g. you're still getting food!) then by all means leave it charging.

Out of interest is there an integrated wash/wipe function on the Tesla Model 3?

For example, if it's been raining but has stopped - so the roads are still wet but the wipers aren't actually working - and something coming the other way splatters your screen, in a car with washers and wipers operated by a stalk you'd just activate the washers (and with them the wipers) to clear the screen. How do you do this quickly and easily in a Tesla if there's no column stalk?

Mines a 2022 and the button on the end of the left hand stalk is a single wipe or keep it in and it’s a wash / wipe

There is a button on the RHS of the steering wheel. Push to wipe, push and hold for fluid and wipe.

Thanks both, sounds like that's not an issue then!

If you want to activate the wipers to run continually (because it's started raining) can you do that via the same stalk or is that when you have to use the central touchscreen or rely on the rain sensor?

On the latest software version you can press the button for a single wipe and then scroll the wheel on the left hand side to go through the different wiper speeds. As when you press the button the wiper speed menu comes on the screen in the bottom left hand corner.

Basically you don’t have to let go of the wheel to adjust it.
