Are you permitted to take in a hamper with sandwiches Bakewell tarts and lots of bagged wine?

Pork pies sausage rolls

Or go all posh with a picnic.
Given the prices I saw in Silverstone and having 3 kids (who simply cannot wait when hungry) we always have a picnic - or even take a disposable bbq and cook it there (we take a light brick so no ground damage). A lot of fun too and no missing the race.
Yep, and the Carrefour is useful especially as they do bags of cheap croissants, but BBQs are a fuss during the race.

Because at 24 hour race it's not just a case of sitting the whole time watching. Likewise even though you are at a race, it's still nice to watch it on TV at the campsite

I expect you can take in as much food as you can carry.

Are they doing bag checks here ?

I've had bags checked in both Belgium and Germany race events.
Glass bottles are the only things they seem to have an issue with

Electrical problems.
Cheers Vlad.

Hope they get it fixed and back out on the track, hate to see anyone retire from a race, and those SMP cars have IMHO the prettiest livery of anybody!

Is the BMW i8 a hybrid or has it been converted / built to be to an engine-only car?
It’s not an i8 they are running the new 8 series platform. Internal combustion only.

  • ETA I mean silhouette not platform, naturally. It’ll share a windscreen and not much more than the road car hehe

It's a normal 8 series not an i8 so conversion needed. I agree with whoever said radio le mans that it sounds like a diesel, it basically makes no noise

Alonso into the car. I think a lot of people have been waiting for this.

Edit: Eek! He almost collected a mechanic in his haste to exit his box.

On the subject of the BMW, any idea why the GTE version is an 8 series, but the GT3 is a 6 series?

Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin all manage it off the same platform.

I can't think of any other manufacturer where the GTE and GT3 are based on different cars (I know some do one not the other)

It's not a "silhouette " either,it's a GTE homologated car.

It's not a spaceframe with plastic panels screwed on top.

Of course, it’s GTE homologated, but it’s no Ford GT. Theres nothing in that car that’ll match the road car when it’s launched in a few months apart from potentially the windscreen, lights and a small part of the chassis?

(Unless I’m mistaken?)

Someone highlighted a news report saying LMP1 privateers weren't allowed to do longer stints than the hybrids and would be punished if they did. That's definitely BS, radio Le Mans said the SMP LP1 was doing 12 lap stints without punishment

As far as I know, it is only the GT drivers who are limited on stints. Definitely not LMP1
