Glass bottles banned at lemans, all campsites.
Discussion
i can imagine a sudden rise in the amount of water bottles being used to take in much 'harder' drink which is clear like gin, vodka etc which actally is probably a worse move than allowing the normal beer/wine to flow.
I wouldn't mind buying from the bars inside the circuit but at €8 a pint no doubt with a 2inch dog collar on top european style...not much chance of that happening

Certainly last year at Arnage, there was a firm discouragement from taking glass bottles onto the live part of the spectator area. This isn't a bad idea as I realy dislike standing on broken bottles to watch the race. Indeed I saw in 2009 a woman chucked out of the spectator area for bringing a dog with her. This was certainly a first for Le Mans! Can I suggest that we buy up plastic pint mugs for decanting the amber liquid before we go into the spectator areas, and if you bring back packs, any contraband is well hidden.
Just my thoughts.

Just had a direct message from @Lemansrace.com on Twitter in response to the question 'what's the official line?'
"The info from the circuit says that although a law was issued yesterday banning alcohol it has now been lifted. But no to glass trackside."
Which would back up and confirm what Paul Garlick was posting earlier.
As you were then............
Not difficult to search backpacks as you head in to the track. Seems cans are okay, and plastic containers. The initial searching and banning of all glass into the campsites yesterday was indeed caused by a lack of communication.

So can I bring a couple of slabs of Fosters (4% abv) tinnies into Maison Blanche or not then?
Yup, and a couple of bottles of plonk. But you can't take the plonk trackside in it's original container, has to be plastic/metal.
Cheers for the info/clarification.

so what happens to the bottles that have already been confiscated ?can the rightful owner come and collect, or have they been drunk by the marshalls already !

There is no way they are going to be able to enforce a thorough search of every car/bag every time someone arrives. There would be traffic chaos in minutes. Surely they also need a warrant to ransack your car? But then, when have the Frogs ever abided by European Law when it doesn't suit them?
They all "pack heat"....... there was a serious typo about to occur there!Man with a gun > Man with a piece of paper.
Right - I think I can see what is going on here. If you're on e.g. MB site, you are effectively track side. So how do you get through the security gate at the road entrance with a boot-full of stubbies and then convince security that this is merely for own consumption around the tent ?
If you're down by Porsche curves, are you telling me that dozens of security are going to start parading about looking for alcohol ? That's what they'll need to do. Forget the backpack - some of those tents are virtually trackside. So how are they going to do that then ?
Surely, it's easier to stop them at the roadside gate otherwise isn't it a bit blurry (pardon the pun) as to whether your tent/camp set up is track side ?
This might be the easiest option on all the sites that need your race ticket to enter.
I'm not knocking anyone here who has found out what's going on - which is really useful to know. I think the French authorities there have balls'd this up.
