We are taking the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo on the Wednesday (as usual).

We have hired the campervan for an extra day allowing for issues on return (although we are staying on for 10 days after the race).

Whatever happens, will happen blah

I'm booked for the Le Mans Moto on Easter weekend - could be a tight rush to get sorted if there is a no deal Brexit.
Having managed to get start line tickets and a hotel cheap before prices were jacked up I'll be a bit gutted if I have to miss it

Visa free travel was confirmed yesterday by the EU at least.

So I'm guessing your driving license and insurance will still work too then...

Ditto, I'm travelling to Spa on the 31st March, what could go wrong... I'm not worried though (perhaps foolishly). There must be millions of Brits who have booked holidays into Europe this year, I really can't see barriers being thrown up to block/hinder the tourism.

Government guidance updated again yesterday: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prepare-to-drive-in-th...

It's really simple and nothing to do with 'throwing up barriers' etc. In the event of a no deal crash out numerous legal arrangements involving driving licences, vehicle authorisations and insurance would automatically cease to be valid and would take time and effort to be be put back into place. If a deal's not in place and we do crash out on 29th March we need to expect significant disruption.

IDPs (International Driving Permits) are now available from Main Post offices.
You will need your usual driving licence and a passport sized photo.
IDP 1968 permits cost £5.50 and are valid for 3 years.

So for the price of a pint, give yourself peace of mind wink

But it has already been announced that they will not be needed for 3 months after brexit so unless le mans dates have move to july they will not be required,

Where is that information posted?

I have over 4 trips so far planed to europe in the car, so for £5 quid I think its best to be on the safe side smile

I spoke to my insurers recently. If there's a brexit deal, all should be fine.

If there is not then they say they will happily issue a green card and after March will look at the IDP situation.

On a different note, having left the EU I suspect anything with a British plate could be a target pour les gendarmes...

And you think prior to Brexit a British Reg traveling at Warp speed to Le Mans was not already a target ? ;-)

Until the end of March NOBODY knows what will definitely happen. The French are not going to risk losing any tourism money that's generated, the rozzers are still going to watch for British cars driven by the intelligently challenged and it will rain at Le Man's. Other than that I'm still going on the same ferry as I have done for the last 9years wether it takes a bit longer who cares I will be on my way to LM

I would speak to them again and ask them what their default EU cover is (or was) because in most cases, cover is 3rd party only. I always "upgrade" to what most call a "green card" which is the same level of cover as you have in the UK (if comprehensive). So far, Admiral is the only insurer I've had who provide the same level of cover when in EU member states. Direct Line, Churchill and Privilege required approx £35 to upgrade my policies to comprehensive for previous LM trips. I'm now with Performance Direct and they state that driving in Europe is 3rd party only but one will have to call them to upgrade.
