Well by now we would be well on the way home, feeling down that it is all over and already planning for next year. However that did not happen and we all hope that we can have the real race in September

Been going to LM24 from 1996, not every year though. Sometimes with my son.

Always been a late starter for heading off to LM so right now we'd be on Le Shuttle and then a drive to our hotel for Friday and Sunday stay over, usually near Alencon or Falaise. Stop for lunch today on the way.----if we are using the N128 then we'd stop just after joining south of Rouen. Get to the hotel and then a few beers before heading off to a local excellent restaurant ahead of the great day/weekend.
Saturday morning. Had a good breakfast at the hotel, now on the A28 for an hour or so run to the circuit, outskirting La Mans itself. Park up at our designated space in Parking Blanc, say hello to our new neighbours for the next two/three days, then get inside, get to our tribune seats at La Racccordement, check out the large TV screen opposite, and crack open a few tins of 1664 to soak up where we are etc. Will have our first jambon et fromage baguette for lunch I expect along with more 1664 after buying the obligatory plastic glass as a memento of 2020.
Been watching the race for close on four hours now, getting through the usual intake of 1664s. Getting hungry so time to go to The Village to queue for a ridiculously expensive chicken and chips at a restaurant but get a good break and some good chat. Once fed, we'll walk to the inside banking at Tetre Rouge to spend the evening there until quite late past sundown.
It's gone 11:00 so we've left Tetre Rouge now back at our tribune seats at La Raccordiment for what is magic period no. 1. 11:00 to 1: am. Serious endurance racing, just a few real fans in the grandstand, time for the last 1664s of the day. At about 1:00 am we'll head back to the car in Parking Blanc to catch a few zzzzs ahead of starting Sunday at around 5am.
Got up at around 4:am,headed to our tribune seats for magic period no. 2: racing from sunup to about 9:00. Usually the best racing of the weekend: the tension to make the finish can be felt. 1664s are seriously good at these early hours. Will be getting a full English later hopefully.
Once the race was over we hung about at Parking Blanc for a couple of hours in order to avoid the hassle of exiting the car park with the crowds. An hour or so's drive to our hotel in Falaise, promptly spent ages in the shower, then had more 1664s in the bar. At a good local restaurant this evening before heading home via Eurotunnel tomorrow. Looking forward to see all the cars on the road back and also at the Eurotunnel terminal.

Bring on LM 2021.

R.

By now we'd be chilling in the bar in our hotel south of Rouen, chosen because of the planned 4pm finish this year.

One of our group would be boarding an overnight ferry.

I'd be guessing who is likely to return next year, and who is wondering why they thought it was a good idea.

We'll all be knackered, and I'll be missing the sound of RLM enjoyed the whole trip until race end.

Earliesh start tomorrow for the tunnel- got to get those Isle of Man guys home for their flights (that would have existed because Flybe wouldn't have gone bust)

After a relaxing evening in a hotel near Rouen and a bit of dinner we'd have eaten as much Petit Dej inside us as possible and then head for the tunnel. All the time wondering why the weather had suddenly turned sunny and the wind had died down..!

Roll on September (possibly)

Having had my last shower at PHBN on Monday morning, I’d have tucked into my last cooked brekkie for a while with friends before we load up, drive the public road sections of the circuit & head back to Caen for the afternoon ferry. We took the decision a few yrs ago to stay as far off the main roads as possible as we head towards Caen to enjoy the local scenery & avoid the possibility of needing to speak with the Gendarmes about Anyang misunderstanding on traffic regulations hehedriving

Right now we'd be well on the way to Calais, having spent the evening by the hotel pool last night, and catching up on sleep. Now we're on a mission to get the Isle of Man guys back in time to catch their flights, so reluctantly we have booked on the tunnel. It's all down hill from here.
That said, be nice to see the wife and kids, but the depression is already starting...12 months will take forever, for 6 days that will be over in a blink.

Halfway across the channel out of Caen at 7ish this morning. Home by lunchtime.

The shopping list of Le Mans requirements safely put away until next year.

A very tired drive back to st malo for the ferry.

On way down it is all a/b roads, through the Villages. On way back it is onto the motorway to ease the tired head. I do tend to get a bit bored though and end back up on the smaller roads for the final bit.

Try to get to st malo for lunch. Lovely seafood (drop of wine) and ferry in the evening.

There's a ferry in the evening? I've only ever sailed from there in the morning, but that was in the 90s. I think there was only 1 ferry then, eve out of Portsmouth, morning out of St Malo. Can you now get an overnight from St Malo? What time does it sail, and what time does it reach Portsmouth? I'd love to finish my trip off with that fantastic all you can eat dinner in the restaurant.

Back to Jersey.

I’ve never noticed another sailing in the evening for Portsmouth.

Sorry.

Yeah, just double checked that and have been advised it would have been 8am out of LM for the 12pm boat Dieppe to Newhaven. Of course, all based on last year.

Unless you built in a couple of days in Jersey or Guernsey and then went into Portsmouth from there.

It would be slow boat to Portsmouth (8hrs) though. Fast ferry (4hrs) goes into Poole.

That would be a very cool thing to do, except not after Le Mans - the ending of Le Mans is just too depressing to enjoy anything
