Glass bottles banned at lemans, all campsites.
Discussion
This same "rule" was floating about last year...
Did everyone have beer and wine in glass bottles? Of course they did. Can you buy Champagne in a box? No. Are the French partial to small bottles of beer and wine? Yes. Does France have a large glass industry? Yes. Is your car going to be searched upon entry of the campsite? No. Is your bag going to be searched when you go into the circuit grounds? No.
Am I concernced? Am I f**k! Will I get pi**ed? Yes. What do the French do when it comes to French rule/laws? Shrug their shoulders and carry on.

There have been warnings about no glass bottles allowed in the circuit, printed on your GA tickets for donkey's years now, probably since one of our lot fell head first into the bottle pit, while trying to invade the circuit when Jaguar won back in the '80's !
I think I've been stopped once when showing my ticket whilst drinking from a beer bottle, the fact that I had a case under my arm didn't matter, they just wanted the open bottle disposed of.
There are ways and means of getting your drink in, just treat it as a mission and celebrate handsomely when you succeed !

If it wasn't for the contents of the OP's first post I'd be inclined to agree with you. This to me smacks of an attempt to up the on-track beer sales, more than anything else...Did everyone have beer and wine in glass bottles? Of course they did. Can you buy Champagne in a box? Younger brother and his girlfriend just sent me a text - they were not allowed onto Houx without the car being searched and they took three cases of stubbies. They'd just been to Carrefour in Le Mans and them on show in the car. They were told if they didn't hand them over they would not be allowed in.
Glass ban is a good idea.
Years of spending hours picking up loads of bits of smashed glass before I can pitch my tent will be over.
If people didn't feel the need to smash up everything on leaving there wouldn't be a problem. Cans / wine boxes in the bin at the end and it will be all the more pleasant for it.
As long as they don't actually ban drinking.

Current situation is this:
There is no ban on alcohol, but there is a ban on taking glass into the circuit. Houx and some other campsites are within the circuit. Cars are being searched at Houx entrance and not allowed in with glass containers. Consequently local supermarkets have run out of Long John whisky - the only one available in plastic bottles.
I can't believe that the situation will continue all week, but that's how it is this evening. All my stuff that was in glass is being decanted into plastic.
The above does not apply to Camping Bleu, Beausejour, Expo and any others outside the circuit limits.

I see the reasons but it is oh so French to not communicate up front or even get the supermarkets on-board. Years of spending hours picking up loads of bits of smashed glass before I can pitch my tent will be over.

I hope Carrefour at up to the task and shipping out glass and in everthing else.

...Anyone know if airtrack is part of Houx itself or just next to it. Directions say enter 'Chateau du Houx'... is that the same as 'Houx'? We'll be entering the campsite and then heading out to supermache after unloading, so I guess we'll check what's going on when we get there and go glass or aluminium accordingly.
