Speedferries to France

Our boat had engine trouble on the way out to Le Mans too, blown turbo apparently. Had to make the trip on 3 engines, which made us a little late but we were on the first boat in the morning. Can imagine they'd have been well behind by the later ones...
Indeed. We sat on the docks from 1800 til midnight, and got to our hotel in Boulogne at 3 in the morning. That one of the doors jammed at the other end and about a third of the boat had to be reversed off didn't help much either
So, that little tale of woe apart, I'd also say that the staff were brilliant (to those of us who didn't eff and blind, scream, and call them all manner of names - if that woman's listening, I hope you got kicked off ), and clearance was fine.
only bad thing about speed ferrys was upstairs in the VIP area. there were no seats available downstairs on our way back, and the 6 month pregnant wife wanted to sit down we sat in the VIP area, and were moved on or asked to pay to upgrade. even when no one was sitting in the area.
We ended up being offered a seat to the side of the boat instead.
Cheap Ferry, fast crossing, crap food. Next time, Ill pay an extra £100 and sail from Portsmouth with a non budget operator who can give me a hot breakfast instead of a piece of dried fruit cake for 80p and a vending machine cup of coffee

My only gripe is the time it takes to get off. If you are stuck at the top of that corkscrew bit at the back (which I always seemed to be, no matter what car I am in) you can sit there waiting for the cars in front of you to shift for as long as it took to get across the channel.
With one boat too, there isn't any way out when things go pear shaped. A la easyjet & co, if there is a delay in any sailing it knocks on to the end of the day, hence our very late arrival in Rouen on Wednesday night, 4 hours kip and me spending all of Thursday in a huff wishing I hadn't bothered (I was alright by Friday though!)
Ok, that's two gripes. Still, for 50 squids, compared to the £150 P&O and Sea France were talking.
