Classic and ACO membership
Discussion
Have made loads of trips to Le Mans in the past, and this year 4 of us are planning to give the Classic a shot... really looking forward to it! I was thinking of paying for an ACO membership but I just wanted to check what others thought about the benefits when you are there. How many members areas are there, are they good spots? Is there anything else that makes membership worthwhile (other than the discounted tickets)
STruggling to find decent information on the ACO website, so I thought I’d check in here as I’m sure there are plenty of people with plenty of experience and great advice!

If you are doing both main and classic in the year then membership is worth while, but for the classic only then financially it is not quite so good, however if you are an aco member then getting seats in the aco grandstand is well worth the costs in itself, the food and drink in that stand are cheaper asnd if the weather is suspect it is handing to have somewhere dry to see the race from.
Can't remember seeing the big ACO area (just past Dunlop on the inside of track) at the Classics and I read the ACO website as members areas benefits mainly applying to Le Mans only. Believe some of the price discounts decrease at end of Jan. Assume the rooftop viewing area down by karting may used at Classic aswell? (new in 2019?)
There are a couple of stands linked to ACO members stand as we had seats there at 2018 Classic (main benefits were short walk to restaurant and toilets in stands without long walk and queues).

Thanks. I assume you have to pay for grandstand seats, or is it complementary to AO members?RL17 said:

That’s interesting. It’s looking like there’s not a great deal of point then. Assume the rooftop viewing area down by karting may used at Classic aswell? (new in 2019?)
The karting rooftop viewing area is cracking! Also a short walk from where we usually stay.:-)

Seems you get minimal discount on 2 x Gen Admission tickets (ACO v earlybird price) but have to pay a further Euro 15 to be eligible for Members Area (just the 1 permenment area in stand) to buy 2 x discounted Paddock tickets (not shown anyway on membership page when signed up)
Yes. And I couldn’t see where I could buy all this anyway. It’s THE most bizarre website I’ve ever used. Seems to favour Safari. I couldn’t do anything at all with OE, FF etc.
I have the option of renewing my ACO membership on the existing basis which is 110 euro (I think) which allows me discounts on up to 6 general admission tickets, and 2 camping tickets and a few other bits I am struggling to translate.
Alternatively I can swap to the modern membership which seems to allow larger discounts on 2 tickets and a few other bits I can’t translate.
As I invariably buy 6 or more tickets and don’t do the classic I think traditional route is best or have I missed something?

IMO for Le Classic it is a good idea to try and get into the ACO tribune (T18 I think) because of all the hourly activity on the pits straight as each race grid is formed, and also because of the substantial pits action at this event. I think that T18 has less to offer for the regular Le Mans 24 hours.
The showers and toilets, and bars inside T18, are well worth ACO membership in my view.

Based on earlier threads the old option looks best. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Alternatively I can swap to the modern membership which seems to allow larger discounts on 2 tickets and a few other bits I can’t translate.

Only did the new one but 60+ 15 for member area access and 15 for member area at Classic soon builds up and 25% x 6 much better than 40% x 2
