I really fancy a mile muncher with soft seats, is quiet and rides like it's on a magic carpet. What budget options are there?

Old Jag XJ, BMW 740i, Merc S500, Volvo S80 or Lexus ls400 should do the job cheaply. If they are in gold condition and to varying degrees of success.

I had a Chrysler 300c 5.7 V8 Hemi now that was comfortable, very thirsty though

If you can get past the slightly challenging looks, an e65/6 bangle 7-series is a fantastic way to waft away the miles when you’re in the comfort seats (a must) and on 18” wheels.

This one has both those options (first I found on A/T - not suggesting it’s the one you should actually buy)

A good one is a lovely way travel - a bad one will be ruinous. You have been warned! laugh

Scratch the S class unless it's an older model, not half the car they used to be ride wise!

I have owned loads of Luxo barges, my full fat Rangie is the most comfy car I have ever travelled in...Autobiography with massaging and heated/ cooled seats and wing back head rests...heated steering wheel...and a fridge.

I like this thread - popcorn ready and thread bookmarked. I still hanker after my old Saab 9000 CSE

Would be a Lexus LS400/430/460 depending on budget.

I believe that they are quite a nice place to waft away the miles and not too expensive to keep running.

I also recommend the C5, I just bought a 2009 Exclusiv model to do some commuting in! It genuinely is quiet, refined and relaxing to drive - so much so I have fallen a little bit in love with my budget commuter and decided to keep it past the winter. I really rate it - it's almost as comfy as my XFR to sit in and is definitely quieter smile

.. Here's the rub though, the DMF costs around a grand to replace. Factor that cost into your budget if you plan to keep the car (it's why they're so cheap and why my disposable winter hack can now be labelled beloved moneypit).

This: NOTHING is better for comfort within that budget which it will not break unlike the superb C6.

If you can find one then the winner has to be the Renault Avantime.
