My Aston has managed 6k miles in 5 years and in that time has cost a lot in depreciation, tax, insurance and a little in servicing, etc.

My ML350 does 6-8k pa, even post COVID I can’t see it going up that much as I’ll ride to work in the summer.

So the plan is to consolidate into one car that I can use daily, I’m guessing I’ll get £26-9k for the Vantage (08, manual, fsh, 41k, few extras) and £11-13k for the ML as it’s black / sport amg blah blah.

Everything seems rather expensive at the moment, I did fancy a Targa 911 but they are £60k+ …

So essentially MPG doesn’t matter, I want a coupe / convertible, newer than 2013 (newer the better), under 40k miles, not interested in a hot hatch, 2 series, A5 etc nor anything odd.

Choices so far;
Bentley GT
Ford Mustang (winning so far)
BMW M6
S500
C63
Maserati Granturismo, daily seems a bit extreme …
Lotus Evora (not sure if it’s a tad small)
GTR, not sure if a good one is too old / useable everyday?

Jag F Type R? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105263...

Honestly though if it was me I think I’d buy a 2019+ Supra, 4.3 seconds to 60 less than 5k miles and IMO they look great, but less prestigious than some of the other things you mentioned https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202106043...

Could you not just use the Aston as a daily?

Neighbour has a F Type and a Bentley GT so don’t really want the same.

The Aston is in mint condition, relative to its age, it’d be a shame to use it daily after 5 years and it get the usual scratches and car park dents from daily use!

There is also a need to carry stuff now and again as well as 3/4 passengers, plus wife has a SLK so I don’t want just two seaters.

Motorbikes are there for fun too, I always grab the keys to a bike rather than the car when it’s for fun.

Get the Mustang you won't regret it, it'll daily with ease & with a little fettling it can be turned into a very smart steer.

I'd also recommend the Lexus RC-F it has a very special V8 under the bonnet & it's a car that gets under your skin:

Thanks for the suggestions.

E53 isn’t for me, it isn’t distinguishable enough from a E220D for my liking.

The RCF is nice but I’d be afraid of taking a bath on the residuals.

I think a nice manual post 2018 (for the 444 HP) Mustang with Recaros is what I want, just need to drive one.

Just waiting on some job feedback as my commute will go to 400 miles odd per week which will remove the Maserati / Bentley and ‘might’ add a GLS / FFRR to the mix …

Residuals have been very strong on the F models.

Sorry as not on topic…..but an AMV8V for £30k seems like really good value for money. How have you found it over your 5 year ownership. Apart from depreciation etc, has it generally been a reliable car? Any problems or annoyances about it? I feel the need for a change around of all my cars and this is on my short list for fun weekend/special road trips just me and the wife kind of car.

Surely there can’t be much depreciation left in it and might appreciate over the next few years?

It’s cost normal running costs, a couple of tyres, new discs / pads all round, plus servicing.

In terms of repairs …. The headlight washer pump, the windscreen washer pump and … one corroded brake pipe.

So easily under £400 over the years, plus £500 for some paint work for bubbling.

I think it’s had one MOT advisory before I owned it, none in my ownership, it’s a very good example as I saw a fair few and I doubt age has helped, easy £35k car at a dealer.

If you are interested drop me an email / message, we’ve been to Le Mans, the Lakes, all over N Wales, it’s a brilliant car but as I mentioned I just don’t use it, I take a motorbike for fun or if we are going somewhere then mine / wife’s car as I hate leaving it worked anywhere public.

Appreciation is deceptive, my tax / insurance is £1200, service around £500, say £500 for consumables, so it costs me £2k a year before it turns a wheel.

I've been looking a lot at these Supras and they are remarkable value for money at around 5k miles. If I didn't already have a car with the B58 + ZF8, I'd strongly consider one of these next. Just think it wouldn't feel different enough.

Only genuine downside is the interior. Very uninspiring, plain and things like the last gen iDrive, BMW's 2 generation old steering wheel, etc is annoying. The exterior is the nuts, just such a shame they couldn't be bothered with the interior.

Well I’ve just been offered £30k purchase or £32k p/ex against the Vantage which is really surprising (in a good way).

I wouldn’t get a M4 over the M6, too many M2/M4 about.

We are in a similar boat.

Our choice is the S Class Coupe.
No need for the S63 as the 'standard' turbo V8 is wonderful.

Back seats are amazing for our 8 year old and when the eldest (both 6ft 3) come home.

Downside is it's Q car status. From the read and side it's stunning, but in the rear view mirror it's going to look similar to many Mercs.

Inside is amazing. I was sprawled out in the passenger seat and had room to spare (6ft 2). Wife loved the drive and manoeuvrability.

We like this one.

W204 C63 would be mega

Or how about a 5.0 supercharged range rover sport (or maybe up the budget slightly for a SVR)
