As far as bikes go I’ve always been a Honda man, started with the doctors repsol. Shame the goat is on an underperforming Yamaha atm.

The idiots obsessed by mpg should head over to the Martin Lewis money saving expert website or netmums instead imo.
I have to say I care about MPG especially from my daily as money saved there means more to spend on the toys, someone coming on here looking for advice for any car is fine with me & I'll happily give them suggestions.

The OP doesn't seem like an idiot to me, he sounds like someone who's a petrolhead but his circumstances mean that for the time being he needs a good reliable car that's sensible on fuel due to his personal circumstances, he's come to the Car Buying part of the forum for suggestions/advice on some cars that fit his brief & imo that makes him smart.

As I said earlier if you could only contribute to PH if you are a petrolhead that owns a petrolhead type of car PH would lose over half of the people on here & that's before you discount the people that believe standard is best as that goes against the reason PH started in the first place.

I'm more of an all are welcome type of person, than you need to be this or that. beer Even you with your boring Blade lol.

Are your vehicles standard?

Richard Attwood, the F1 driver and Le Mans winner ran a Peugeot 405 for over 400k, should he go to "netmums" (I think you mean MumsNet) too? Jog on mate, you're clueless.

No, it means saying that someone caring about running costs doesn't mean they're not a car enthusiast. Unless you're saying an F1 driver isn't into cars?

Quite possible - for many it started as a love then became a ‘chore’ or a ‘job’ because they had to do it
HTH.

I have a 3 series 335d - doesn’t meant I’m not a car enthusiast.

You must be a troll, nobody is this much of a IRL biggrin By that extension, Lewis Hamilton having a Cobra 427 means you're suggestion F1 should be based on them, right? Why don't you take your moronic "opinions" to Facebook where they belong? There's nothing worse than someone who thinks they're superior when they have nothing to back it up with. plenty of people on here drive McLaren's, they also have i3's, are they not good enough for you and your Golf? Jog on pal. Go troll some other thread. You're worse than Yipper

Started to look at the mk6 Golf 1.4 TSI in more
detail around the 2010/2011 age but it seems that these also have timing chain issues...

Mpg matters to me, but purely because I resent paying fuel duty in an oil producing nation.

Mazda 3 Sport

ok, it's not going to rip your face off with its 'low down grunt', but that n/a 2.0 as used in the MX-5 is pretty sweet, spec and running costs are decent too
This.

Not many 2.0 Sports about (most 3s are the 1.6) but if you can find a good one they are a good car.

Focus underpinnings (best steer in class), lots of standard kit, chain driven and Japanese reliability.

It won't set your hair on fire (150 bhp) but they have decent mid-range grunt.

No common faults AFAIK.

I’m back to looking at mk3 Focus’ again now! I’ve seen the below but I think I remember coming across it weeks ago so not sure what that should tell me about it not being sold yet..

All the 320d bashing, all about the torque in these rigs...they are great rep cars for muching the miles, more fun to drive than Audi dervs or Vauxhall smile

I have one and more than happy - if I want anything more fun I take my 40bhp '66 Beetle for a spin, who gives a crap about bhp!! Jeees!

OP look at higher miles and get newest car you can for budget and get a petrol avensis, bullet proof and better than anything Vauxhall
