What’s the deal with Gap insurance for lease cars now? Most (almost all) companies have stopped selling it but what happens without it if you write the lease car off within the first year and there is a big shortfall with what you owe on the lease?
The first year the insurance company should cover the cost of a new vehicle

Year 2, 3 and 4 are when you need additional insurance , I think it’s called contract hire gap insurance

Only applies when you own the vehicle, not when you lease it.

If you or your partner bought your car from new, have had it for less than a year and you or your partner are the first and only registered keeper and either:
• the estimated cost of repairing it is more than 50% of the manufacturer’s list price (including taxes and accessories) when the damage or loss happened;
or
• it’s stolen and not recovered;
we’ll replace your car with a new one of the same or similar specification.

I've got a lease going back to AC and someone has hit my bumper when parking. Lower front bumper has noticeable paint scuffs in an area with a circumference of roughly 10 inches.

Would you take this to a shop to repair or just hand it back? I don't know any reputable companies nearby and my only car. I'm ok with a slightly inflated repair cost. But don't want hit with an unreasonable charge.

I'd just hand it back. I've done this in the past and never been charged for damage.

A lot of the time the scuff looks worse than it actually is. Buy a paint cleaner and try to remove as much as you can. Try to mask it with dirt if possible also so it’s hard to notice.

I had a nasty door ding and what looked like a trolley scrape on the bumper in separate Supermarket incidents whilst parked. The funder, ALD charged £80 as I recall, it would have cost many times that to take to a body shop. More recently got charged £40 for an alloy scuff with Alphabet. These seems very reasonable.

I find most repair prices reasonable to cheap, so just hand it back. Only bad experience I had was with Pink/total motion.

Has anyone dealt with Pink Car Leasing before?

Seem to have an alright T-Roc deal:

Volkswagen T-roc Hatchback 1.5 TSI EVO R-Line 5dr DSG

1+23 | 8000 | £298.47

Only thing putting me off is their mixed reviews on Google.

I thought the FCA had made the finance companies pull all of the GAP products as they'd realised what poor value for money they offered. In some instance they were paying out 70% commission on them.

Commission was relevant to dealer sales, not
product bought online by customer on their own accord. Sadly almost everyone stopped selling GAP now, so if you take lease with higher upfront, you can't protect it any more. I'm glad, that due to mistake made by the broker, my next lease is 3 + 23, not 6 + 23.

So you need this additional insurance

I just bought gap for my lease. Apparently if it's written off you get your deposit back through gap? There is some other malarkey about covering any remaining payments etc but unsure if I needed it or not. I used ALA. Cost around £130 for 3 years.

You kidding me? I just bought a policy a few days ago.

I wonder what this means?

You'll be fine - they stopped selling policies midnight on the 14th May.

I bought a 3 year policy for my Nissan Ariya (that arrived last week from the recent in stock Xcite deal) on the evening of the 13th because I knew they'd stop selling from the 14th. It's only a 2 year lease but wanted the additional protection in case I decided to extend it and the FCA were still stopping GAP insurance from being sold.
It was only an extra £5 or so for that extra year, so no brainer really!

I got a quote from them a few days ago too - I know lots of other providers stopped doing this cover.

How is your take on the Ariya? I assume it is the 87Kw with the Sky pack.

Correct - in Gun Metallic Grey.
Coming from a 7 seat Seat Tarraco FR with 3 kids, it's obviously not as big but it's seriously comfy and quite rapid with e-pedal off.

The front seats could maybe do with a bit more support, but that may be because I'm used to the sports seats of the Tarraco.

The boot is not massive (again, comparing to the Tarraco), but with the false floor it will be good enough for 95% of our needs.

I was concerned about not having enough space in the back for 3 kids sitting side by side - 360 degree swivelling child seat and booster on the outer seats with my 10 year old in the middle, but it's surprisingly spacious. Due to the long wheelbase and flat floor, the rear legroom is brilliant too!
Also loving the flat floor at the front - it really adds to the sense of space, although the front footwell is quite shallow.

Seems to be very efficient in this fine weather - only driven about 50 miles since getting it on Friday, but 100% was showing an estimated 368 miles of range. It's currently on 85% and showing 299 miles of range after a few miles of spirited driving this evening.

360 cameras, heated windscreen, steering wheel and front seats as standard plus the opening panoramic sunroof that the Sky Pack brings rounds off a really really nice package and happy with our first foray into the world of EVs.

With regards to the Tarraco, had that on lease from Zen Auto and was collected by Aston Barclay this morning. Really nice chap and said he was very pleased it was very clean and tidy. Did the inspection in about 5 mins while I was there chatting with him, asked me a few questions to double check what features were on the car so he could fill out his checklist and he was on his way!
As always, just hope they don't find anything on the full inspection they may do before it goes to auction.....

What are your driving settings? Eco, B and e-step on?

I went for the same Ariya. I don't regret it (yet) but as a shop-the-deal person, there have been a couple of cheaper EV deals that I may have considered since.
