That looks like very reasonable money if as described.
Last 'engineer's S-Class?', built to a quality not to a cost? Sounds like an absolute cracker

You just don’t get to buy an S Class (or the like) from a man who’s owned it for a quarter of a century very often any more.

Agree - could potentially be a really good buy. Even quite ropey ones are rarely offered that cheap.

Look forward to the forecourt pics…

My nursery bills are more than my mortgage ATM - i (quite literally) don’t have a pot to piss in.
If i had more than zero money an Accord Type R would be my first choice for a second car then i’d have to decide whether to keep the Mazda 6 or the S211.

Must be FWD judging by the engine lay out?
Interior looks exceedingly comfortable!

Information is a bit hard to find.

Rear wheel drive

Engine alignment
The alignment/orientation of the engine in the vehicle. A transverse engine is mounted so that the engine's crankshaft axis is perpendicular to the long axis of the vehicle. Longitudinal engine is mounted so that the crankshaft is paralel to the long axis of the vehicle.

If that makes sense.

I strongly suspect this is one of those odd-ball layouts where the engine is transverse while also rear wheel drive. The Nissan Pulsar was 4WD and transverse mounted engine so it was a bit of a thing for Nissan in this era.

Viscus LSD is mentioned on some of the specifications on some websites which is suggestive of upgraded RWD drivetrain, LSD was basically unheard of in FWD at the time but common on RWD.

This website says RWD (but it is just some advert): https://carsandbids.com/auctions/36GNZ61l/1995-nis...

Loving that s class. Wondering what bodywork it needs doing as I'm thinking "rust"

Even had a wooden steering wheel. Used to see one like it parked on a weed filled driveway in a rougher part of Yeovil. Iwd to brighten my day up but think it's been swapped for a early 00s c class with the minging lights on the front

I would consider that from the rusty era. I think the W211 was one of the first when they started to fix the 1990s rust problem and that came out around 2001.

From PH auction, 2011CL63 AMG at a whisker over thread currently. The guide price for a near 15yo car seems fantastical. 4d left w 3 bids so far. I suspect it won't sell.

Wot a load of BS in the descr, to save you the bother of looking - I didn't even click more - here is a snippet;
There is a lurking brutality to the CL63 AMG. It has the aura of a heavily maned lion - ostensibly sleepy and dormant, right up until the second it decides to roar into life and tear through a herd of antelope.

Utter c*ck !

There's a bit more in the sellers notes

"Well do I start !This car oozes retro cool it’s v12 engine which is a distant relation to the zonda engine is smooth all the way up to the red line with crazy power for such a large car , it has had 9 k spent In the last 6 yearsOwners manual but no service book , just bills back to 20182 keysBody has marks commensurate with the age and milageInterior is lovelyRear passenger window dosnt workSunroof is slowWindow double glazingHeated seatsIt literally has every toy you could get in 1996Rear blind worksI’ve just done 100 miles in it and it keeps good oil pressure and didnt get hotFor such a big car it really dosnt feel it , it corners incredibly flat , all in all a real suprise and fun to drivePlease note private plate removed now onN616CBD"

Which gives the impression this is a quick flip, so could potentially be a nice car being sold by an idiot.

It is absolutely nothing like a Zonda laugh he means the engine (which is rather different) but I bet an MX5 would drive closer to a Zonda than a 140 hehe

There are a series of youtube videos of one of these fitted with some bonkers exhaust and it sounds for all the world like a 90s V12 F1 car, it's absolutely brilliant, but what makes it better is that the car looks like an absolute snail while it's making this enormous noise.

It's not an actual snail, it's a hair slower than a W221 S500 although I'm sure the old 4 speed cuck neuters it off the line, but the juxtaposition of hypercar sound and family SUV performance is wonderful.

235 pictures, lol! Didn't get past the 5th as they're all in the shade.

Guide is 18.5-20, I suspect with ages left it will get close.

It feels like many moons since I started my first contribution to a new volume by asking if it was in that one the 216 would enter thread. Bar salvage, I don't think we've ever seen one at sub 5, 5750 advertised became common a while ago, but they are fee and far between and concrete drives still need cars parked on them, so even the ropey ones still seem to find homes. Cheapest available seems to be this, you're not getting that for thread!

I have a suspicion the state will just keep upping the tax on this sort of vehicle (in terms of perceived CO2 output) until they force all but the dedicated enthusiast to give them up.

The high tax puts me off. I'm keeping my 55-plate CL until lower tax v8 coupes of some sort get to the point of being reasonably priced... or I'll buy a saloon of some sort. Those newer shape S-class v8s are coming down in price. I get that bored feeling after having a car for a while... so a CL500 is no longer good enough, a CL600 or a Kompressor would make everything right again. In fact there's nothing wrong with mine so really I should keep it.

I've seen it, I think it sounds good, if it were a sports car. In a W140 I think it absolutely ruins the car.

I'd assumed it was a joke thing to do with some cheap old smoker they'd bought, I think it'd get pretty old if you tried to actually use the car for more than laughs hehe
