But also don't forget the OP's sister specifically asked for a car that hadn't been damaged repaired which the dealer agreed to.
Largely impossible to establish on a three year old car. They would hardly start removing pieces of trim, inspecting underseal or measuring paint depth as part of their 'used approved' checks. Might be a cursory glance down each panel, pop the registration into their trade HPI and you'd be lucky if it saw a ramp. Bert
sorry not kept you updated was waiting to hear back from dealer. Have spoken to dealer, dealer wants to take car in for inspection and said will then make an offer early next week. He wanted to make a deduction for mileage and length of use.
I've sent him the vcheck info.
I'm not sure what he wants to inspect, it's rather a moot point, it's a Cat S.
Is it wise to let dealer take the car for "inspection"?
Was having a chat with my sister's husband, he said when he had gone to the dealers, there were a number of cars at the back in various states of repair. Might be completely innocent, but don't know.
Still waiting to hear back from finance company.
I've just watched the Dispatches programme and it covered this exact situation, cazoo and car giant have also been caught out.
The programme covered how HPI is failing to capture Cat S at salvage yards - and showed how vcheck is! - so a big win for vcheck.
Said there are around 40,000 cars in this situation. The cars on the programme covered exactly the safety concerns I had and raised by others, with air bags not being replaced and seat belt pre-tensioners.

The inspection's probably a formality, to make sure it hasn't been further damaged since bought. I doubt you have much choice if you want a resolution, but can't see any reason not to. Perhaps take a bunch of photos of the car's current condition/mileage before sending it back.I've sent him the vcheck info.

A deduction for mileage/use is not unreasonable after 9 months, so if he offers a refund less that then I'd see it as a good result
If it was me and I was happy with current condition of the car, I would probably be inclined to negotiate with the dealer and see if I could get an acceptable lump sum back and keep the car.
At present the OP (well his sister) stands to be car-less with a sum of money in her hand, which is less than she paid for the car, which will probably not be enough cash to replace it with a like for like vehicle.

The OP has concerns about the quality of the repair and the structural integrity of the vehicle, so I don't think they'll take that route (although I see what you're saying)At present the OP (well his sister) stands to be car-less with a sum of money in her hand, which is less than she paid for the car, which will probably not be enough cash to replace it with a like for like vehicle.

I've had cars before that have had damage, but paid for the repair myself, therefore no category as insurance weren't even aware.
Why would you not just claim through your insurance? Interesting thread, I hope you get a satisfactory resolution OP.
If anything it shows that HPI is not the holy grail safety net that many (including me) assumed it was.
I'd seen https://www.vcheck.uk/ plugged by a few car YouTubers that I follow, it would seem that it is a tenner well spent!

Car was probably priced less than a non-damaged one in the first place, so yes, it will take more money to get a same-age-mileage car now.swiftguy said:

Yes let them have the car, the deductions are standard.I've sent him the vcheck info.

The replacement wing on the car being black on the inside is fairly typical in terms of accident repair. I'm surprised that you can see much of the inside of the wing without looking really hard or removing other components. I would also question what colour the inside of the other wing is. They are not usually body coloured as manufacturers don't usually paint bits that you can't see.
As for the rest of the repair it's hard to say without seeing the car in the flesh. The impact damage on the pictures doesn't look that hard, you certainly can't see any evidence of the airbags being deployed, hanging out of the dash etc. From the pictures it almost looks like it has glanced a wall or something that has then collapsed onto the bonnet causing all of those scrape marks.
At the end of the day if the OP and his sister would rather just be shot of the car then that is their choice.
