Ken. You got some posts taken down because people were mocking you. On a car forum. It's not me that's weird.
I didn’t.

Give it a rest mate, it's incredibly boring for the rest of us.

D350 only refers to the engine/drive train. You can have it in the L460 model (up to around 2021) and the newer L460 (from around 2022).

As model designations (specifications) you can have D350 in any of the standard specs (not the higher SV specs).

The D350 is definitely a nicer drive and more economical than the older SDV8 in the L405 of which I owned 3 and did over 100k miles.

Does this engine suffer from crankshaft snapping issues?

I've never had a FFRR but have had multiple RRS, mainly L494's but recently moved to a new L461. I've never had a major problem with any of them, the infotainment on my pre 2022 L494's were a bit tempramental which was annoying but no problems other than that.

The L461 is a massive step on from the 494 in every area, more refined, rides better, handles much better and is a lot more economical, mine's a D300 and I'm averaging high 30's MPG where as in my 494 with the same engine it was stuggling to reach 30 and my Defender I had with the same engine was mid 20's.

They really are superb cars and even with a lottery win I can't think of anything I'd rather have as a family car, I'd just add some smaller sportier stuff to compliment it
The L461 is pretty much the same car as the L460 FFRR unlike the older models where there were bigger differences between the RRS FFRR

I love mine. The anonymity is brilliant, the practicality even better. Only thing is it's so tall I can't reach the roof when I wash it. But then I'd be exactly the same with a Range Rover.

Not cheaper, or more economical, but is there anything that does the job of a family car (significantly) better than a Range Rover.

I should expand, so will.

We have a little electric car for the local runs, and a selection of sports cars for being sporty, so for me a family car means a big, bright rear seating area with large windows, to stop the young children getting car sick; a vary big boot for when we travel, and a car that’s just “nice” to jump in and drive. Ours has the big V8, so isn’t sluggish.

As per some of my previous threads, I’m thinking of changing the car soon, and although fancying some quite disparate replacements (Alfa Stelvio, Bentley Flying Spur, Lotus Emeya, S-class, M760…) I’m not sure if any of them overall is going to be “better” as opposed to just different.

Any thoughts welcomed.
Yes. Any large station wagon.

These posts above just illustrate that you two can't bear that people might disagree and/or think you're wrong. A few posters are politely disagreeing with the subject of the thread, there isn't any 'bile' or other nonsense being quoted above.

Almost by definition, the FFRR isn't the best family car because the OP has another car as a local runabout. As a car for trips, when you have a 5-car garage, yes they're great, but as an everyday family car? That is by no means a clear-cut answer. But that's no reason for people to have a little strop.
Thanks for your stroppy opinion.

A lot of posts on this thread have been unreasonably biased and argumentative which distracts from a discussion related to the original post. I welcome debate and alternative views but not idiotic opinion. The OP has been a bit stroppy as a result of some of the posts but please point out where I’ve stropped on this thread in response to a particular view.
Braddo is clearly not being stroppy.

There is no such thing as "the best" family car because families differ. If the best for your family, your priorities, your tastes is a FFRR, then get a FFRR. What's the best FFRR? Well, it's a FFRR.

The V6 diesel in the L405 has some issues but I haven’t heard of any issues with the D350 engine. LR are introducing a new gear box for the MY25 FFRR but I’m unsure of the differences.

Anyway, enough people have suggested an estate car that I’ll try one.

I’m taking out a GTC4 Lusso next week so will see if everyone’s right.

I know you're just willy waving, but a) you're trying a teeny bit too hard, and b) 4 door would be needed unless you hate your kids, so Puresangue would have been the better bet, no?

It’s not an estate car, and apparently an estate car is what I should be buying.

If you think this is “willy waving” though you’ll hate my thread about penknives.

Just another view we run a Discovery 4 2016 model, it has just ticked over to 104,000 miles, in the time i have owned the car it has needed one Maf Sensor (I have had plenty of these go on a variety of other cars over the years) other than that the car drives perfectly & as of yet has not needed anything else & the Maf sensor did not stop the car getting me home.

I have owned far more unreliable cars from the like of BMW & Mercedes before, I had a BMW 520 that was an absolute turd of a car, Then a BMW 1 series for 8 years without fault too, you can have problems with any cars.
I took my 2009 lr3 from 50 to 130k. 15 yr old car driven daily in 40degC+

In that time (6yrs) it needed lower front arms, a pair of front air struts, an ac compressor, suspension compressor and 2 of the crappy plastic coolant t pieces that sit on top of the block, after the 2nd failed I made one out of brass. I don’t think that’s a bad lot considering, especially as aftermarket parts are so cheap. Drivetrain was faultless.

Drove a cayenne again today whilst minded of this thread and they aren’t as nice a place to be as the RR imo.
