Do most private buyers simply go on price? Car not selling.

AutoTrader has my business now. smile

Also, I've had my first sniff today. Text from someone in London offering me £1700 without even viewing. Had the old 'what's your best price?' text, followed up by a story about them being in London, can't view, too far, will I just accept the £1700 etc.

Fun begins. smile

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't do Facebook.

My car has been looked after. Nice to see comments saying how good it looks.

Another sniff.

'Can I watch your car today? I come from Corby.'

'Yes, if you can wait until I finish work at 5:30pm'.

No response. smile

The '£1700, think about it, I'm in London' chap has gone quiet too.

Corby person wants to see my car after work.

Blimey!

Right, what do I need to do now? Obviously need to make sure they have insurance. smile

Good luck!

Just ensure it`s clean, let him look over it and see what he thinks. Obviously retain the keys whilst he`s poking around. Sort all the paperwork out so it`s to hand.

To be honest it looks fantastic value as is, I`d be reluctant to take the £1,700 offered for it from London, if my wife wasn`t so age averse I`d be looking for something similar to replace her Jazz.
Thanks. It is sort of clean, but I used it at the weekend. Oh well, it's clean enough. smile

I have given my home address as I don't want to seem like a scammer and meet him somewhere neutral.

I'll hold the keys. I've asked him for proof of insurance to cover a test drive if he wants one. If not, he can sit in the passenger seat and I'll drive.

It is a good car, so I won't be shifting much below the asking price. We'll see how it goes. smile

To be honest, unless Corby guy fails to turn up, it`ll be gone by this evening...
Hopefully. But I don't know how we will sort payment this evening with the banks closed.

If I were coming from Corby and I really wanted the car, I'd have £1500 in used £20s to wave under your nose at negotiating time.

I'd also have another £400 split around 4 other pockets, in case you were an awkward bugger wink
hehe

If any money is exchanging hands, it'll be done in a bank and checked there and then.

Going to the bank is massive overkill - the likelihood of forged currency being used to buy a cheap Mazda is almost negligible.
Take a read of this, and you'll be fine: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/Documents....
OK. Ta.

It's the one thing I am worrying about. Don't want to take some cash, get to the bank and be told it's fake. frown

Do you worry a lot about things generally?
The chance is minuscule, and easily mitigated. This really isn't something to concern yourself with.
Yes, I do. See my anxiety-related posts in the health section.

Sorry. smile

laugh Not the response I was expecting.

Good luck with the sale. Be prepared to do a bit of haggling, and have a lowest price in mind that you'd accept for the sake of shifting the car on. Try not to get too worked up about it - it's just two guys chatting about a car that interests them mutually. Don't be afraid to tell them you've got another viewing lined up, but don't forget the value of having someone standing in front of you with a handful of cash.

Oh, and do report back.
No worries. It's the way my brain is wired (drives my fiancée potty sometimes) hehe

Thanks for the tips. I'll consider everything you say.

Chap coming to see the car is called Atilla.

Oh yes, forgot to say that whatever happens later will be quite quick.

I only have about half an hour to spend with the chap this afternoon. He has ok'd this though.

Test drive done. Potential purchaser was a lovely chap. He needs a car this week as his has expired.

He didn't have fully comp insurance, so I took him out to the deepest, darkest parts of where I live and let him drive the car down a quiet, country lane.

Unfortunately, no sale at the moment though as he has to consult with his wife before purchssing. He is also looking at a Honfa Accord from a dealer. He said he will make his decision in a few days and get back to me.

I told him I have a viewing on Friday.

He genuinely seemed taken aback by how good the car is. Couldn't praise it ebough. So, we'll see if he wants to buy it.

The only bad thing about the test drive was him trying to start the car when it was already running. Made a nice crunching noise! smile

We'll see what the viewer on Friday thinks. In the meantime, I've had an email over pistonheads from someone else showing an interest.

Hmm, as he needs a car this week and was pleased with the condition of the car I'm surprised he didn't buy it.

Onwards and upwards to Friday then!
Indeed. He drove over an hour to see the car, genuinely looked really interested, then said he couldn't commit for a few days.

Oh well. Like you say, see how Friday goes. smile

He's not going to buy it.

However, seems like you now have the price right to attract interest, so GLWS!
Thanks.

Amazing how dropping it under £2k has prompted interest.

I'm here with a £3500k car! Its the nicest, lowest miles and cheapest comparable one one Ebay with a great spec, receipts for the fixed common faults and has rare spec of leather and auto. One test drive only... Its a petrol not a Diesel - many seem to want only Diesel - good luck with that on a 10yr old car in town!

Its a common mistake to price private cars a couple of hundred below dealers prices and hope for the best. Lets face it you'd want it to be well over £500 cheaper if it were you buying at this level. I priced accordingly! V slow for a cracking car... Comedy offers can still take a running jump - but they are there like vultures hoping to grind you down wink
A chap delivered a parcel to my house a few weeks ago, just as my car had gone on sale and was on the drive with 'for sale' signs up. He said he was looking for a car and mine looked really nice.

When I told him it was petrol, his face dropped. He said he would never get a petrol car as diesel is cheaper.

The brain washing of the masses seems to have worked a treat.

I asked him how much mileage he did. He said only a bit at the weekends as he spends all week in a delivery van. I did wonder why he was after a diesel for low miles, but didn't bother to make any comments. smile

In 6 months i'll be looking for £3k runabout and the Mazda 3 2.0 Sport is top of my list. I've been keeping an eye on prices and yours looks very well priced. Only thing that would put me off is the colour, but for less than £2k I could live with it.

I reckon you'll have it sold by the end of the weekend.
You don't notice the colour when you are sat in the vehicle. wink

If you want any info about the model in general, just let me know.
