That metallic brown is lush! I saw an E36 M3 in Munich recently that had received a full colour change - stunning.

Many thanks for all the responses, chaps.

Reason for the 4x4 / crossover is less about bumpy farmtrack and more about the propensity for flooding. We had to change out our 1-er in winter last year for the same reason. The F25 X3 we have is a lot better than I thought it would be.

I got perilously close to putting a deposit down on a Valencia Orange (cream leather interior) X1 up in BMW Aberdeen on Friday. Had every option box ticked with 25d powerplant, but something stopped me from doing it and I don't really regret it, so I know the X1 isn't for me. I've still got a couple of X3s on the shortlist but I'm struggling to justify having two of the same vehicles on the fleet when life is too short not to vary ones experiences a bit.

So, the Yeti is in pole position. The PX value on the Z4 wasn't quite as high as I would have liked but offset by the fact the vehicles are cheaper anyway. Just need Skoda Cambridge to actually listen to what I want and source me the appropriate cars rather than what they "think" I want. I didn't think it would be that difficult but if they fart around much longer then I'll do it myself or end up going back to what I know with the X3.

Just to update this since I know lots of people talk a good game but rarely put their money where their mouths are.

I've just put down a deposit on a 2014 Skoda Yeti 4x4 Outdoor L&K with the 168bhp motor and a manual box. Got a good deal on it and my Z4 being traded in, so a minimal cost to change and the Protection Pack is being thrown in to the deal. Collect on Saturday morning.

Thanks for all your help. My first foray into VAG stuff and hope the Yeti turns out to be half as much fun and as good to own as many people have told me.

Great choice!

I`ve got a real soft spot for these but the boot appears to be a bit small for us.

Im in the process of sorting our new family car and the yeti is at the top of my list with a new kia sportage there too,my man maths have worked out leasing a new car is the way forward with some very good deals on both cars.

My wife dislikes the looks of the yeti but i like the van like look and the load space looks plenty big enough for our needs.

Good luck to the op with the new motor..

For anyone who's interested - a great little car.

Really wasn't sure when I was handing over the keys to the Zed. But I've done around 300miles now, averaging 47mpg, whilst giving it a fair bit of stick. It handles very well and can handle some cornering speeds you might think were out of kilter with how it looks. But it's a very good fun little handling warm hatch.

So far no regrets and I'm sure as I start using the utility of it, it'll continue to grow on me.

I had it doing over 55mpg on the way back from the dealership and sourced a brand new set of steelies with DunlopWinterSports for well less than 500quid. So far good value to own too.

On the basis of the last few days, I'd suggest anyone who even thinks that the Skoda Yeti has outside appeal should go and testdrive one. They're really rather good. smile

They are a brilliant piece of kit.....

I doubt you will have any regrets. Ours has been exceptional over the last 60k miles.

I was going to replace my 06 panda 4x4 with a yeti, drove a 170 monte carlo limited edition. Really liked it tbh, ended up buying a new shape panda 4x4. Didn't need the extra space and the panda had more zing/character. Not to mention the comedy value of passing large sun's on 20" bands in snow as the slip and slide.

What I did.

The X1 is absolutely shockingly woeful, even the salesman didn't want me to have one!! And the E91 was cheaper.


The Yeti is a brilliant car , get it.

My best mate's just bought a Yeti for his wife so I had a bit of exposure..... in the end I bought an X1

Horses for courses and all that, I just thought the interior of the X1 (admittedly I did get a very well equipped one) was a nicer place to be and the auto box suits the diesel lump rather well.

Only 600 miles in, but an average of nearly 40mpg with the lead right boot that I've got means I'm very pleased

So, I'm 10 days in and 500 miles under my belt. Car is still showing 120miles until next fill up and am averaging 47.8mpg according to the MaxiDOT trip Computer, which I think is pretty good. Funny that all the owners on Briskoda seem to moan about mpg due to it's bluff exterior and lack of aerodynamics, but I guess not many of them have owned bigger SUVs. Even my F20 118d only averaged 48mpg over the time we had it. Whereas the F25 X3 can only manage an average of 38mpg. I won't mention to them what my E70 X5 used to do.... biglaugh

Rather surprisingly, I'm loving it. It's a real hoot to drive in the twisties. It's got lots of oomph if you want, but I will confess to the engine being pretty gruff and unsavoury at higher revs, so I forego the real shove for a bit more refinement. In some ways, I wish I'd discovered this a little more on the testdrive since I think it would've led me to a lower powered variant or the petrols if I'd have known just how harsh the derv unit was past 2.5k rpm. Mine is a Euro V engine, I wonder if the Euro VI that I testdrove are more refined. idea

But it's a good place to sit. There are some clever bits of technology; it feels really well thought out. Just little things like the exterior mirrors not unfolding until you start the engine. Sounds stupid, but there are lots of times where you potentially get in a car to pick up something you've forgotten or have to squeeze past it in a tight space, where opening the mirrors before getting in impedes entry. I like the way it's been programmed, unlike my X3 where the mirrors unfold when you unlock it.

Also, MaxiDOT computer is clever and really easy to navigate, even whilst driving. The fact you can also change headlight configuration for the continent just by ticking a box rather than fumbling about under the bonnet like my BMWs is very cool.

I'm struggling a little still with the image, but helps living in a rural area where there appear to be lots of them about. Once winter comes and it's covered in mud most of the time then it'll look a Little cooler IMO! wink

On the motorway it's very comfortable but does have some blind spots which will take a bit of getting used to. The "life-saver" over the shoulder look it mandatory in the Yeti when changing lanes, as I found out on the motorway this morning. eek But Suspension-wise, very comfortable and although there is some road and wind noise, it's nicely drowned out by a very capable 8-speaker Stereo Setup. Much more effective than BMWs basic Units, which I've always felt are weedy and tinny and in need of upgrade.

Overall, as you can probably tell, I'm really enjoying it. I'm pleased we still have the X3 in the fleet too as I'm not sure I could have the Yeti as our only car, but that's only because I've been spoilt with the relative luxury of a BMW. But it's a very capable and likeable car. Surprisingly chuckable and as soon as I get the knocking from the panoramic sunroof sorted and the squeaking Turbo, I'll be even happier with it.
