After seeing a few Evora's driven VERY well on track, I've become a big fan
For no other reason than "they're not an Exige" I just never really expected much of them when being driven hard. The reality is, on track, they're very very quick cars
I've driven an Evora 400 on track, very impressive car. And far more suitable for road use than an Exige. I wouldn't buy an Exige for pure road use, the Evora is a far superior road car whilst retaining 95% of the driving pleasure of the Exige. For no other reason than "they're not an Exige" I just never really expected much of them when being driven hard. Get the Porsche.
All the time in the Vauxhall you'd be thinking 'what if?'.
Does the Porsche have seats in the back? A friends Carrera 4 does, but is the Turbo different? If it does, it's a family car, so another thing to recommend it over the VX220.
Nice to have such a dilemma, and good luck!

The wife drives a very safe car - a new diesel Nissan. Not quite a shed but a boring box.
I dont think of cost as money outlaid. Cost to me is depreciation and the reason for choosing these 2 cars is that I believe both are at or near the bottom of their depreciation curve. A 2015 Lotus will drop in value overnight and 'cost' a lot more. Plus both the 997 and VXT are fast, fun and convertible. That's really my only considerations in choosing a car and arriving at these 2.

I would imagine the 997 will still be losing money at this moment in time.

I've had a vx220 turbo for almost 10 years and can safely say as much as I love it I could not live with it as a daily drive, it would most likely drive me insane. It is however a fantastic eventful weekend car, I considered a 997 turbo a while back to replace it but the vx really gets under your skin, so much so that I couldn't go through with it. If you can have one as a toy then I'd say go for it, doubt you will lose a penny in depreciation either. The 997 turbo would make a much better daily car, not as focused and raw but a nice compromise for your criteria.
Not a 997 but I do have a 996 turbo and a VX220 turbo. Both very different cars but both an absolute hoot to drive in their own ways.
The porsche you could drive for days in fine comfort, but when you decide to put the foot down it goes like a rocket ship. Usual German build quality etc, but it's a heavier more refined thing. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing depends on what mood you're in a guess. As a kid I always wanted a 911 turbo so I still enjoy opening the garage door to see it sitting there looking fantastic! Had it for a couple of years now and I honestly don't know what would replace it, other than a newer version of course.
The VX is a blast! A proper hooligan tool, reminds me of riding motorbikes. Get it warmed up and giving it death round the twistes on a nice day is what driving is all about. The grip and feel it has is second to none, which is great when you're out for a bit of fun, but I couldn't have it as my daily driver. As mentioned by others it's very compromised, there's nowhere to put anything inside, if you have a passenger you need to be pretty friendly with them, and if you're not you certainly will be by the end of the journey!
My answer in true PH style, get both!
