Ok tolltickets seems to cover me for most of the stuff i need.

Back to the original question - will I have a hard time shifting the car when i get back?

The trick with selling a car is............buying it right in the 1st place.

Just buy an mx5 under £1000 far more fun than a 320d no need to sell it when you get back. This is what I did.

I feel that £4000 is to much to spend for something like this, as it opens you up to a much larger loss at the other end. Personally I'd be happy enough buying a 500-1000 quid car off of somebody who's bought it for a road trip. I'm not sure I'd be as happy spending 4-8 times that in something that would have most likely spent it's last couple of thousand miles getting thrashed mercilessly. That's just me though.

You make some good points. I'm now thinking of spending £1000 on a W201 Mercedes. They seem pretty bullet proof, the main issue being rust. I've seen some very low mileage examples at this price; 60 to 80k.

I'm just worried about breaking down which would really be a pain. However, if I buy a low mileage car and prep it for the trip e.g full service, breakdown seems unlikely. Also a lot of the drives are only gonna be a few hours at a time so doesnt seem like too much strain.

Thoughts?

If it has a 12 month MOT, rust doesn't matter - as long as you don't hit anything smile. Just buy it at the right price.

Does anyone have experience with W210s. Seems to be quite a few around for £1000 with really low mileage.
Seems like a steal; am I missing something?
