It’s a good suggestion but as I’m in the military I’m constantly up and down the country every week doing 400 mike round trips, I can’t afford to keep running a 54 plate punto! Want something that pretty good at motorway driving but is entertaining, everyone says ‘just keep a banger for a couple of years’ but it would more than likely to cost me more in the long run especially if it breaks down doing trips of that distance
If you're doing 400+ miles a week then get a Turbo diesel you can remap them & you'll have around 200bhp with 400lb/ft of torque to play with.

You don't say what you're budget is but one of these ticks all of your boxes:

Fiat put a 130bhp turbo in the punto, always thought they looked good in sporting trim.

Would anyone here who suggests keeping the slower car have done it if they were 18 and could afford it? No. Go something older but mental so if/when you bin it it doesn't cost a fortune. mk1 tt is pretty quick i have one and they are pretty cheap now 2-3k.

Can’t wait to be at that point in life when insurance is below £1000 for a quick car, most quotes on pretty average cars like an Ibiza FR or fiesta eco boost’s are coming back £2000+
Once you reach that age you'll wish you were 18 again. Don't wish you life away...plenty things to enjoy at 18 wink

Anything 1.2 TSI VAG really, plenty of choice from Audi/Seat/VW/Skoda. I'm 21 with a Fabia Monte Carlo 17 plate and my insurance is £500 a year now.

Not going to win any awards for street cred but perhaps consider a Renault Twingo GT as well? 1.2 turbo iirc and can't see them being too high an insurance group.. I think a mapped one goes almost as well as a renaultsport 133 and no doubt some of the 133 upgraded bits could be transferred to the GT.

Is that with or without a black box though?

The point he is making is you don't have to spend all your cash on a car NOW and be limited to something relatively low powered and still spending a good chunk on insurance. There are a large number of older cars which may not attract such large premiums, sadly I don't think the Audi TT will be one.

How about something like a Mitsubishi Colt CZT for a couple of grand?

Yeah mate they aren’t that bad just if you do long distance you’ll probs get charged for miles if you run out but it’s only for a year so might as well

Yeah I know mate, something that’s in insurance group 15-20 that’s a hatchback is what I want so probably gonna have a look at some older cars

So have you looked at how much modified insurance is? Chances are it will be more expensive than just insuring a non modified faster car.

Yeah, I only need it for a day a week trip to college and the odd time for golf so it shouldn't be too bad so long as i'm sensible
