With that budget you'll get a Euro6 SUV which won't be subject to any ban,

The Government has already said that they will discriminate cars by their Euro spec so don't let that hinder you, what I will ask is how many miles do you do a year as that will be the bigger factor of weather a diesel version is what you need.

I'd also say don't worry about weather a model is being replaced because it means you can strike a better deal, here's an alternates list:
Thanks that's really useful. I'd not really considered the Jag but should as it looks nice. How does it compare to the Macan (I'm guessing it's that size)?

This will mainly be used by my wife and I'd expect 2k miles with 5k miles an upper limit as we don't use it for commuting so I'm not worried about fuel economy.

A bit of DIY and most of that could be sorted fairly cheaply, non?

I'd just keep it.

Unless you just want a big, new SUV.
I agree, keeping it is clearly the cheaper option however there's an element that my wife would like a safe new car 'for the baby'.

Is the newer Mazda CX-9 available in UK? Quite like the look of them.

What about Toyota Land Cruiser?

Good point, I like the look of the XC90 and should add it to the list although is the engine a little low powered? My RX 300 is a 270bhp petrol and so not sure a 2l diesel will work for a bigger car?

I can't think of a Jeep dealership near me so will leave that off.
Lexus RX450h would be a good shout as previously suggested by someone else. I don't know if it was just a typo but your current car has 201bhp not 270.
My brother has just done this..gone from a 150k RX300 to a 40k RX450. His is a 2012 version and a very nice car it is too. Cost him 20k to change. So do that OP and pocket the savings.

I looked at doing this exact thing, think the RX I looked at was 30k but was very similar to my 2004 model and felt quite dated having sat in the new model which put me off however, the new model was 60k+ when I started to spec it which put me off as well.

TBH finding the process / decision quite daunting as I've never considered spending this much on a car before frown

It's not as good a drivers car but they're a very nice place to be, but if fuels not an issue get yourself straight down to Jeep & get yourself one of those SRT8's start up alone will put a smile on yours & the wifes face. wink

Its similar granted..an evolution of the RX300 in the way that most cars are an evolution of the previous model BM, Merc etc.
The brand new version is like you say 60k, but I agree has moved the game on somewhat.

I'd Lexus it again or do another sort of 4x4 Toyota or Honda.

£50,000 to travel 4,000 miles a year?

You want an Uber account...

Tounge out of cheek, as per the other recent thread with similar requirements, XC90, XC70, V90 Cross Country, Superb 280 (bhp) estate. In fact, you could buy two of them for that much cash.

Right. It makes no sense, though, even "for the baby"
