Apologies, maybe it wasn't regarding reliability. I can't remember what the award was for exactly, but it was on the cover of a supplement! Maybe it was from this...

Should I buy it?

No. It's easy to see the appeal of the Duster's value, but we simply can't recommend it due to its poor safety score. It's a problem that we've seen in other Dacia models, and not something we think you should put up with when considering a new car. It's a Don't Buy model.
Think Renault and Dacia have said, partly due to the chip shortage, that some new safety features ( the sort of stuff that will go wrong expensively and regularly once out of warranty ) will not be fitted as customers would prefer to be able to buy a car now rather than in 12 months time. This reduces Euro Ncap score but would not bother me . A 2 year old car from another manufacturer wont have a lot of this stuff anyway. Which? tend to obsess about this IME. I will look for link

I20 1.2 , Jazz or Yaris would be my suggestion. £7 k Mini sounds like it could be a wallet vulture

Agreed, I wouldn't be buying one of those Countrymans for £7k. You'd be needing to spend at least £15k in this market to get a decent one that won't give you any problems.

Really eek I've seen them as cheap as £4k!

Then again I used to have an R53 which everyone told me would be unreliable... 4 years of motoring and £40 total spent on repairs. Diamond of a car! Maybe I got lucky smile

Any views on C3 Picasso or Peugeot 2008?

Every car has a bork potential (some more than others) at 7k you may just be getting into one that'll have to have the timing chain done but it's not an expensive repair & as long as you do your oil changes yearly it may be something that doesn't affect you.

Go in with your eyes open & tell the MIL this could be an issue later & you'll be fine, she gets the car she wants & you have a peaceful life.

These threads don't often get updated... but she picked up her new car this morning. Safe to say it was something not a single person on here recommended blah a Twingo!

I showed her a high spec one online, but it was too far (14 miles away) so she went for a very basic one. Oh well. I would say my work here is done, but it doesn't really feel like it.

Next stop: Test drives start for my wife's new car next week, which I definitely get more of a say over considering I'm paying for it!

I quite fancied a Twingo at one point. Just in case I was running late for a ferry with the chance to dispose of Ross Kemp.

If it were for my mother in law I’d go for something with dodgy brakes and no air bags . . .

(It’s a joke in case my wife logs on . . )
As I saw the title of the thread I was thinking this would be gold. biggrin

Stayed pretty straight though.

Nice! Is that one of the rear engined ones?

I think it might be yes. Now we'll have to see if she actually uses it... with her last car the battery was dead every time she went to drive anywhere has she hardly ever turned the bloody thing on scratchchin
