An alternative would be to rent a cheap reliable car from Bearman68 on here. Cheap rent and you cover tax and insurance. He does the maintenance.
Could be worth getting in touch. Although i expect them to be here for a couple of years potentially. They went this morning for thei visa interview and have been given the full 3 years from April.I'll go look an Bearmans website and see where he's located.

Would a Citigo/Up/Mii also be an option?
Potentially. Basically anything in a low insurance group, because next year, once she’s got 1 year ncb, she’s going to have to afford to insure it. On the used market I find a lot of those were bought in manual though and very few auto’s.
Honda Jazz? A little over budget but they might negotiate given the cause.

Definitely on the list of contenders. There are also quite a few auto-only which helps. Let’s hope the fundraising goes well. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207077...

Well on the way now. Should the Euromillions syndicate win I’ll add an extra zero to the budget.
Yes. I did have a nice thread in the lounge which pushed it up a bit. But sadly some of the mods has binned the topic, so not sure how I’m going to get there now. Will have to hit my socials eltax91 said:
My aim is set at £3000, i think this gets her into a decent i20/C1/Aygo that's got a year or two left in it. For my part, i will be buying her the first years insurance. In reality whatever i get is better than I have now and I will be extremely grateful.
Just thinking about this, it may be worth considering bigger cars too. The insurance might not necessarily be more as it is down to how many people claim rather than just insurance group. Bigger cars will get you a much better pool of autos to pick from.eltax91 said:
MODS: I saw the edit, thanks for throwing this thread into the doldrums despite my plea. There significantly less footfall here and you also deleted my original, which had an offer in it for a focus at scrap money, but I can’t find the poster now to follow up.
Not quite the same but I wanted a first motorbike, they deleted and said PH also have motorbike classifieds. It's full of the superbikefactory. I wouldn't touch them. No ta. Ever.
I don't see how a Ukrainian family affect the business.

Yes good point. Although she’s a tad nervous about switching sides of the road too so there’s that to consider. She refused to drive my disco 4, for example. Once her U.K. license comes through we will get her on wife’s insurance (Ioniq) and see how that goes.
Hi Eltax.
I am in very similar position as you with a lovely lady and her daughter staying with us. Have got them both jobs, but we are in middle of nowhere, so transport is a challenge.
Curious about the license situation so to save me some time trying to actually speak to a human at my insurer did you need to get her a Uk license/ hand in her Ukrainian license b4 I you could insure her?
Also looking for el cheapo local to me (Andover)…

My insurer (marshmallow) was founded by a Ukrainian and so offered to cover her on her international license (valid without paperwork up to 2 years from landing). Maryna doesn’t like the idea of driving my Disco4. Too big.
Wife’s insurer (QMH) only insures U.K. license holders. So, we’ve done the D1 form and sent off her U.K. visa permit thingy and a photo and are awaiting the return of a U.K. license. Whereby we will immediately add her to wife’s car and then once funds are available start the search for a cheapy.
Remember the U.K. has added Ukraine to its license exchange scheme but it does not recognise the manual entitlement as it cannot asses the test out there. So, you’ll receive back an auto only license in the U.K.

Toyota of a reasonable price would be my choice, something like this:

That is so much car for £2k! Think about how much phones/laptops cost these days and you can get a smart (enough) looking car, with 12 months MOT for that kind of cash.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205105...
Bargain. (boring, but a bargain!)
