I bought a car from Motorhub the car itself turned out to be a very good car but the whole experience was aggy, I'd still avoid buying from them but I wouldn't slag off their stock.

Needs to be cheap due to the aversion to mileage British punters have.

I've bought 3 cars with over 200k on the clock.

Took a V70 from 220 to 300. Only out of course maintenance was an engine mount.

VW Transporter, circa 225 to 255. Alternator went, £25 for a good second hand one.

Focus Estate (ex Taxi) 221 to 290 odd. That did snap it's timing belt but it hadn't had an easy life, stuck a new belt on it and 2 new valves and it soldiered on.

Most of the rest of my cars have been over 100k on purchase.

Just remember almost no one will want them when you sell it.
Always liked the idea of having a higher mileage car. It's a lot less upsetting if your car breaks down over 150k rather than under 80k haha

My money would be that this motor has been used for Cruise Line work - for example - Saga Cruises use a company who will pick you up at your front door from anywhere within the UK and then drop you back off after your holibobs. Yes, technically its been a taxi but with high motorway miles combined.

Would I even buy an air-freshener from Motor Hub at Keighley. The answer to that one is a resounding no.
Ah yeah maybe, good spot. Seems like the running theme for avoiding MotorHub smile

Do a Vcheck you get better info.
I'll have to check that one out. I usually just use MyCarCheck. Did use CarVertical but didn't really rate it.

That's the thing, I'm weighing up the risk. Could be a decent car, might be an absolute dog. Either way you still have to deal with their shady business

Does the E class have an hour counter hidden in the ecu that can be read by a carly type device? Would be interesting to calcualte the miles per hour average.

Never bought from motor hub, and the reviews certainly paint a picture, you would have to treat any purchase as a worst case scenario private sale and be prepared to be on your own afterwards to avoid any stress (can’t be dealing with fighting legalities etc lifes too short) . Would the ‘discount’ make up for that?

Only way i could buy a car from them would be inspection and 48hr test drive. Which I’m sure they wouldn’t agree to.
For sure. They were happy enough for me to send a mechanic down to inspect the car, which is weird. I've seen stories of them refusing completely.

I reckon you’re right. It doesn’t look like a regular cab. I’d have a good look at the wear in the boot for scuff marks from luggage. Most of the miles will be motorway so this looks like a good car. But I’d go nowhere near a car being sold by them. No way.
Will be a risky one either way. I'm going to see if I can get a pre-purchase inspect done well before I even view the car, and then make up my mind from there.

I imagine it’s been used as an airport taxi rather than ferrying drunken folk around town.

I'd swerve that ex-taxi from Motorhub to be honest.

Why do you want something so new? Do you need a CAZ compliant Euro 6 diesel or something? Really, if you want something newer, then you should up your budget.

These are not Euro 6, but look pretty nice if you aren't afraid of high-ish miles (not as high as that taxi though) and under £10k.

This older E250 CDI estate uses the more reliable OM651

What about this Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TDI V6 that patrolled the motorway and A road network in Northern Ireland in a previous life

Jaguar XF 3.0d V6 estate with not that many miles, all considered

Struggling to get insured on anything bigger than 2.0.

I've had a look at the previous shape E Class, and not too much of a fan of the interior. I wanted something in a newer shape just because of the gadgets and nicer interior. I don't mind upping my budget at all, but for the E Class I wanted a premium plus. The only other one I can seem to find is one for £19,000 that's doesn't seem well looked after. Otherwise Mercedes used approved has a decent one for £22k, but I think that falls out my budget.

I've had a look at the A6, 5 series, Discovery Sport, F-Pace and even Cayenne.

I've seen a few 520Ds in a new shape, with high mileage, but they are a bit more than the E Class

My second post, have just read it all. It reinforces my old cliche that you buy the car, and not the dealer. Due diligence with the aid of your I Pad should give you a useful picture of the car. Another obvious point is that high mileage a) should be reflected in price and b) May indicate that it hasn’t been clocked! Must admit I wasn’t aware of posh or limo like cars picking up Saga or similar cruise customers to take them to Southampton from Alnwick , Berwick or, say Whitley Bay: thus mega mileage , but ‘nice’ customers and no midnight drunks in the taxi. I bet the driver had a nice run home unless he used a little ‘ doubling up’ enterprise.

Their recent feedback is fairly horrific, from what I can see.

The thing that has always put me off in the past - higher sticker price (in their photos), compared to what’s being asked. Reduced? Or do they expect you to pay more once on site?! Mind boggles.

I'm torn with the price. I think it should be cheaper than what it is. WeBuyAnyCar has a trade in value of around 5.5K for it. But when I called them, there is no leeway at all. They are not moving at all. I can get the car checked, and I bet, even if there are things needing fixed on the car they still probably won't budge. From their past cars, it seems like they are happy to stick with their prices and wait months.

That's the thing, their feedback is awful. When I called, they said they took this car in as P/X, which means it could be an okay car. Will never know though. Gonna be a big risk.

I can't see the higher sticker price in the photo. They said they were not willing to budge at all with the price. Think it is overpriced for what it is
