Yes good shout.
Wins against lc500 on looks and rarity, probably loses on engine sound
Reviews mention ride is rather harsh? Can you compare at all to any of the cars that have been mentioned?
Also every single one listed on AT has red interior which I *hate* but it‘s obviously a matter of personal taste and I‘m sure I‘d find a tan or cream one eventually (which would be my preference)
Red interiors photograph dreadfully but look quite good in personWins against lc500 on looks and rarity, probably loses on engine sound

This is for a 3rd weekend/toy car. The 3 requirements in subject are all a must. I want a nice sounding V8 as I’ve never owned one and probably never will after this; I hate harsh ride in cars. Whichever car I buy, I’ll put it on smallest wheels that will fit over brakes, as it’s done wonders for ride comfort in my other cars before. So if c63 comes with 19” but 17” fit, I’ll swap to those.
c63(s) - ride too harsh probably? Otherwise a strong bet.
sl63 - better ride than c63; I’ll struggle to find anything newer than 2017 meaning most don’t have Carplay (?)
M5 Comp - always wanted one, but haven’t yet driven. Reviews suggest harsh ride, again?
M550i - makes sense on paper but it’d feel like I’m buying a second family car?
M8? M850i? - maybe?
Maseratis - worried about reliability, pass
What do you think?
At 60k with good ride quality & a nice V8 there are two standouts imo.c63(s) - ride too harsh probably? Otherwise a strong bet.

S560 coupe these come with a detuned 4/0TT AMG engine, the S500 comes with the cracking 4.7TT V8 & smaller wheels with a nice amount of sidewallboth are great options:

LC500, these are a more modern version of the Maserati GT & they'll get under your skin in the same way:

Definitely will be having a look. I like the small footprint, too.
SL63 / M850i are lovely but rather large.
Good man. SL63 / M850i are lovely but rather large.
There’s only one drawback to the V8S I can think of.
The 25k that it would cost to get a V12S

(Truth is you can get non OEM CarPlay ADD BY Aston Installations to MY15/16 cars, which will save a chunk over stumping up for a MY17 car with the OEM CarPlay. I’ll leave you to determine whether this is a rabbit hole worth exploring!).
First thing that popped into my head was the Lexus LC500

S560 coupe - I didn‘t even realise a car like that existed! Sometimes I get confused by the multitude of models Mercedes sell. Sounds like a good suggestion, I‘ll check it out. It just didn‘t occur to me that there would be another large coupe alongside SL500/63!S560 coupe these come with a cracking 4.7TT V8 & smaller wheels with a nice amount of sidewall:

Budget creep is certainly something I‘m trying very hard to avoid this time round… it‘s just too easy to convince yourself „only“ 25k gets you a V12; then „only“ another 20k gets you a V12 Ferrari… etc.The 25k that it would cost to get a V12S

I‘d rather have a 60k car with the piece of mind I‘ve not spent stupid money on it. But appreciate the suggestion!

I have an S63AMG coupe, it’s the later model (2020) and rides beautifully with all the qualities and features you’re looking for I reckon. c63(s) - ride too harsh probably? Otherwise a strong bet.

I occasionally think of parting with it as it’s not doing many miles these days and I’ve been shocked at the trade offers, so it may well be that a slightly older model (with CarPlay) would match your budget, worth having a look. For reference I bought mine new in stock and got over £30k off list.

What sort of trade offers are those, how much lower than what it would be listed for on AT/PH?I occasionally think of parting with it as it’s not doing many miles these days and I’ve been shocked at the trade offers, so it may well be that a slightly older model (with CarPlay) would match your budget, worth having a look. I always owned popular cars with a large market for them, and offers I‘ve seen were generally around 15% lower than AT listed prices. But as I now am looking at more niche cars, I wonder if I should be prepared to accept lower (further down the line when I want to sell)

The trade offers for a 20 reg car with proper spec (wheels, roof etc) with 23k miles have dropped to under £70k, 10 months ago offers were over £80k. I don’t know when CarPlay was introduced but I’d have thought you could get into a decent AMG for the money you’re prepared to part with. It’s a fantastic tourer, loads of toys, power and comfort and for a heavy car it handles well. Chris Harris has an old test on YT that matches my thoughts and experience of the car, can’t think of a better continental tourer. I guess finding one would be a challenge, but understand the S560 is not far behind the AMG and more plentiful. Good luck.
