Any knockout deals on the S4 saloon? We are replacing the family bus, and as we don't really need a bus now fancy an S4 or 335d saloon.

My heart says S4 for the interior and noise, head says 335d for the drive and MPG.

My wife is fussy (obviously) and doesn't fancy the Golf or Leon. rolleyes

Thanks
simonwhite2000 said the 335xd isn't fantastic from a drive point of view because xdrives don't get the MSport suspension. Then went on to get an S5.

I had the choice of 335xd and S5, and although I drove neither before ordering I don't regret the S5.
Easy answer - get the S5 but make sure you take some additional theft precautions (tracker, steering lock and automotive ghost) as mine got nicked after 5 months! The S5 interior and creamy engine note are well worth it.
As Tom points out the 335d doesnt get M Sport suspension just the bog standard set up so it feels a bit like a waterbed.
Just to point out that the S4 and S5 are near identical mechanically and inside, so the advice applicable to the S5 can be applied to the S4 too.

How much does a steering lock help? Surely if they are going to break into your house or beat you up for the keys they can also get the lock key/code by this method? I have considered one but couldn't see a lot of point apart from it holding them up a few seconds (yet costing you a few seconds every time you get in or out of the car). It would only help when the thieves intercept the signal from the keyless entry or plug into the diagnostic port to start the car?

you can find a fault or workaround for everything but in my view anything that might deter someone is worth while - CCTV, drive way post, tracker, auto Ghost etc all cost money and might not always stop someone but it might put them off.

Currently in discussions with IMG warrington on those leon deals. Seems like one of the best ones around currently. Desperate for DSG for the motorway work so going to have that too. Will update once ive ordered.
same here but something holding me back - going to see one now at Seat Liverpool (over the road from work) to confirm if I can stare at that interior for 2 years.

Anyone who ordered a Golf R Estate from CVL last week had a VW order number yet?
Nope.

After being a long time lurker on here, I did all paperwork Tues AM.

I'm not sure VW underwriters have got to it yet as I've not had any credit check notifications.

Asked my local dealer (Manchester) if they could match Seat Warrington and they couldn't, but I'm a bit skeptical about the Warrington dealer after reading a couple of reviews. Some saying "4 month wait" etc. How long was the wait for the Black Edition Cupras last year?

Have you sent back the order confirmation and paid the admin fee?

Actually just received my tracking number, so all set up on the VW site.

Looks about the going rate.
You can find the SE Nav on 3+23 for about £245 pm. With a £240 fee that's £6608.

Have to say the Tiguan is on my list but had another look at one this weekend and I do think its quite vanilla - not to the level of a Qashqai but it doesnt excite me.

Some got their factory ordered cars within 2 months, others waited 6 months (although this was a minority). If a broker says 12-16 weeks, then add a month or two on top. Dealers tend to be more accurate, but even they can be off sometimes.

This might be slightly out of topic, but what sort of background check does VW do when one apply for the finance / lease? I've moved around so have had few different addresses but I do pay council tax and income tax for 8 years. Unfortunately VW couldn't find any trace at all therefore unable to secure the GTI. So frustrating!

To be honest, I'd be surprised if they did much more than check your credit score. If you're having problems that's the first place I'd look.

Yes, slightly off topic so a couple of people won't be happy...

You need stability in terms of your financial history. Register/update your name and address on the electoral register. Keep all banks/credit card/loan companies up-to-date with your current address. Keep your payslips or at least have some proof of regular income too. Give it at least 3-6 months and re-apply when the next deal appears. Should they require documentation after a credit check, then you can provide it following the above changes.

I waited around 5 months for mine I think. Wasn't the dealers fault, it was SEAT. They had no idea their deal would be so popular and (from the dealers mouth) expected around 100 car orders and got upwards of 4x that. Hopefully they've sorted that now and sacked the people that dealt with it on their end, because their updates and information were bloody lacking...to say the least. I had my delivery date pushed back no less than 4 times, but I'd have been understanding had they just said "cards on the table, 5 month wait."

NVS still show deals on the S4 saloon as £285 pm and £3600 deposit.

I know CVL are still offering the S4 Avant at £327 pm and £3600 deposit. I ordered the Avant prior to small price increase. Not driven the 335 but you won't regret the noise and power of the V6.

My 335d xdrive is going back October time when the GTI arrives. Fast in a straight line, good mile muncher but awful on bends even with adaptive dampers. Words I don't like saying but with the amount of torque available it accelerates too quickly and with zero drama.

Having had a few F31/31's now it is beginning to feel its age, I would be going to the S5!

Thanks all - I've had an E92 335i for nearly six years and as much as I love it I do fancy a brand change. We sat in an S4 at the weekend and it was a lovely place to be. It doesn't really have to be the last word in fun (I've got my GP for that!) and it seems to tick a lot of boxes.

I'll keep y'all updated!

Excellent overall, extremely competent. I'm fairly lucky in the sense that my friends all drive hot hatches or performance variety cars; for comparison sake. Made me nervous as I was going to be comparing it to my friends Golf R. Interior is pretty good; but doesn't photograph well (for some reason it looks very washed out in photos); but it's almost identical to a golf and tiguan (without some of the fake carbon fibre-esque textures). Car is on rails. Not once have I had a "ohhh...jobby" moment. Friends are amazed at how little overrun is needed to get firecrackers from the exhaust compared to one of their M135i's; if that's your thing.

The toys are great and the adaptive suspension, while a bit gimmicky, does help. The bucket seats (not sure if they're standard on the new cars) are the best seats I've ever sat in; but at first I wasn't too sure about them. Standard sound system is very good, although takes a little adjusting from factory. Exhaust has a very nice note on the move, but in the sportier modes you'll need to unplug/deactivate the bloody awful VAG engine noise speaker to hear it. It's not quite as intrusive on the Cupra as it is on the Golf R though, but still a bit silly. Let's be clear though, it's no BMW/Audi interior, but for the price, it's a hell of a lot of car. For the first few days in the wet from a standstill, you'll have the notorious cupra wheel bang even though you'll be convinced you're feathering the throttle, but you quickly adjust to avoid the wheel hop. I'm sure this has changed on the 300, but on the 290 black you notice where the cost cutting has come into play. Full LED lights...except your indicators. Not a big deal, but a deal nonetheless.

It launches like a dog. A total dog. So if you're into the traffic light grand prix, I'd steer clear and head for it's VW sibling. Once moving above 20~mph, it bloody moves. You can and will leave it's aforementioned VAG brother behind; but only from a rolling start. Would I lease another one? Yes. If you get it and decide it's OK, but you'd have preferred a Golf R, you've only got a brisk 24 months before it goes back.

A good honest summary - thank you. I think I would miss the quick get away of the R but the interior is not as bad as in the pics - your right it somehow must photograph badly. If VWFS cannot get me back in an S5 (stolen 5 months in to lease) then ill take this I think given how cheap it is for what it is. My quote was just over 1300 and 231 a month with 10k per annum and seat sound added - the met paint was free and I would go for Grey over Mystic blue I think.
