For a station car you may as well get a used one. They have virtually nothing complicated on them so you won't get grief, despite french. 60mpg you will never see.

So assuming you literally use it for going to the station and back, and use your weekend car for everything else, I would have said it's quite expensive.

2 miles each way, 4 miles a day. So only 20 miles a week. Assuming you get 4 weeks off a year, that's only 960 miles a year.

I would have said you are far better off buying a very cheap car which you don't care two tosses about where you park. Even though it's just a C1, still need to stop it getting dented or anything like that as it's on a lease.

If it were me, I'd love to be able to walk/cycle to work if I could and only use the car when the weather is poor.

Agreed on the utter cheapness however you want it to defrost super quick and be warm for the station run else you are wasting valuable time

Just agreed golf gtd, 6+23, 8k, in stock for £213.99 a month. Bargin!
Is that the silver one? I've agreed 249 for 10k just so I could have black biggrin

Have paid £11 a month for the maintenance package too.

Can I ask why people are buying a GTD to do 8k miles a year in when the GTi is no more expensive?

Not silver, black or red. I want the missus to go red.

8k in a diesel, because I can't find a gti at 213 a month. It'll also return better mpg on longer trips, which we do every so often.

If the prices are the same, and the maintenance is included then you're best off with the more efficient fuel surely?

Yes, but this is PH and the GTD is a nasty diesel engine. smile

Currently debating between a cayman s / m4 / 911. M4 monthlies look a bit too punchy so had a quick look at merc.

C63 -£7k down and £599 a month! I know there's a new model out but that's awesome! Would offset the mega duel bills

if being better off is the sole objective then why not just buy an old diesel golf? or cheaper still keep the current car? over 8k miles per year it would probably save about £400 p/a on fuel going for the GTD over the GTI, personally to me that would be a price worth paying

Why are people banging on about it?

The GTI would cost more money per month, it's £270, over £213. jesus.

if that's the case then fair enough (well actually it's fair enough either way, people can buy what they want) the point was if the GTD and GTI were the same price then why would you choose the GTD to do such low miles?

But it's not due to residuals.

I know someone with a VW up with the same engine, average since ownership of 56mpg so not far off.

Zero extras other than the DSG box.

Ideally I would of had it in blue with the 19" wheels but that would of put it up around £310 a month which looks a lot less appealing. I just had to have the DSG though boxedin

Looking forward to comparing it to the fully loaded ST3 focus it will be replacing.

not 2 miles to the station and then back, never warming up. Also are you sure it's the same engine?!

I think what he means is to achieve 50+ the car will need to be running at optimum temperatures. A station car with a 2 mile trip will not and will actually show very poor mpg. One of our cars will achieve 50mpg on a run but the first few miles will show about 30 (in winter 20mpg when below 5 C). Diesel cars are not fuel efficient when cold.
