I wish I felt the same about mine. I like it but far from love, it's a nice engine. I don't think I have ever taken it for a blat.
Maybe not taking it out for a blat is part of the problem?I drive it hard when I am going places but never just for the sake of driving...

Yep I just looked out the window yesterday and it was there saying to me, drive me!
With the sponges out the noise box it just revs up so well and the noise is
I do wonder what the boxer 6 on the Porsche would be like though
Went out for a very spirited hoon with a vx220 turbo and a Porsche boxster (non s) a few years ago: I have a fairly relaxed view on speeding ordinarily and even I needed to issue a bking: 50 limits and above are fair game but 30’s and 40s through villages are to be observed. The vx disappeared on the flat but I was never sure which hedge they were going to end up in at speeds above 70 when things got bumpy (but that was down to a track set up I think). The Porsche sounded fantastic but speed wise was similar to the bmw. I’d be tempted to go boxster s if I wanted a change up into a Porsche..With the sponges out the noise box it just revs up so well and the noise is

I’m 8 years in and other than a suspension refresh the BMW has cost me very little in maintenance or depreciation and still puts a smile on my face; it’s been a solid purchase really. I think I’d have to sell and spend at least another 10-15k to get much in the way of any tangible feeling of an upgrade and there are too many other things requiring funds at the moment..

Yes a mildly tuned VX220T is a missile, my old one had a stage 1 taking it to around 225bhp with a fast road set up - it felt fine and I took it on the NC500. Very planted and could eat up the road. I have been looking at 3.2 987 Boxsters, appears ones after April 2005 had a reinforced IMS and bore score is only an issue on the 3.4 engines. So not as scary as I originally thought. But agreed the N52 in the Z4 is an amazing piece of engineering.

Can get a 3.2S for about 9k around 90k miles...
Just run in then.If I had a little more money to spend, I may have also considered a 987 (I assume this is what you're looking at), but so far the 986 is proving to be a satisfying steed. I don't think the 987 3.2 is anymore prone to issues than the 986, whereas the early 3.4s were the ones that suffered with potential bore scoring.
If I could stretch for a 987 base Cayman 2.7 with standard 17s and suspension for £10k or under, that would also be a mighty tempting proposition too for me, but I wouldn't pay too much for one over a Boxster as I don't reckon they'd offer all that much in driving experience over a Boxster for me, and you might actually prefer being able to drop the roof.

I am definitely thinking roof off motoring as a big want for the next car.
The coupe Z4 was stiff and great dynamically but I do fancy having some open air fun next!
To be fair, I've never found the stiffness thing to be a problem on any convertible I've had. Maybe I'm just not a good enough driver to notice it.The coupe Z4 was stiff and great dynamically but I do fancy having some open air fun next!
The open air thing can really open another dimension of fun though, especially with a decent engine and exhaust
