SMax all the way. The Xc90 isn't as big inside, handles worse, is slower (unless you get the V8) and uses more fuel. Disco4 has a better engine but has the same disadvantages as the Volvo.

Centre = 950mm total opening, 860mm effective (due to raised boot floor)
400mm off centre = 930mm total opening, 850mm effective

That's on a 2006 model.
