I'm playing devil's advocate here, is it wise to put your ageing parents into a bigger car? Surely something smaller and easier to drive would be more suited?

Lexus RX is probably a tad too large for them to drive town in. The NX would be better but likely to be quite old and beyond the 10 year warranty for their budget. I am not aware of Lexus allowing a warranty extension beyond 10 years.

Although not well publicised, Lexus provide what's called a 10yr plus extended warranty for cars over 10 yrs old, up to 15yrs/150k miles. It's actually a bit more comprehensive than the Relax warranty that covers cars up to 10yrs. It's around £550 a year for the RX, so I guess the NX would be similar, and includes MOT cover for non wear and tear items, as well as UK and European AA cover, so not bad value for the peace of mind.

A bit left field granted but what about a SsangYong Tivoli? For example;

https://usedcars.ssangyonggb.co.uk/used/ssangyong/...

I have a couple in the business. Seven year warranty. Competent cars and never given us any issues whatsoever.
Try getting parts for one, we nearly always have to buy genuine and then wait 2-3 days for bits to arrive.

I guess it depends if you want a car or a mode of Transport

You have the Ford Ecosport as an outsider, The Suzuki Vitara would be a great choice, as would the Jimny if they have the budget.
Our two Tivoli's rarely see the dealership apart from routine servicing. Saying that, our dealer is exceptional from a customer service perspective, they collect and deliver leaving us a loaner so we wouldn't necessarily notice a lead time. On the rare occasion one has needed parts then its been done under warranty.

They're not for everyone granted but as white-goods motoring goes - I have been impressed with them and would happily replace them like-for-like when the time comes.

I'm not sure who makes the engines nowadays. I think SsangYong moved away from Mercedes for the Tivoli launch so would guess that they produce their own engines in-house but that's only a guess.

Nissan Qashqai’s are basically Renault Kadjar’s underneath. I’d be scared to own one out of warranty. Most European Nissans are versions of Renault’s.

Juke = Captur etc.

They won’t exhibit typical Japanese reliability.

sadly nissan wont exhibit jap quality as they are not quality cars...

Had a 2006 plate x trail supposed top of the range, and inside it was hideous... rubbish, and the engine a 2.2 renault... ate turbos...

if its jap its honda then failing that toyota and lexus...

Has to be a Toyota if reliability is the top priority.

As regards Dusters, I did a search and can't find any Auto Petrol ones under £18/19k

Missed the auto bit, they are indeed quite a rarity. Not a single one on AT.

Renault Kadjars are basically Nissan Qashqais. The current range features Japanese engines and British styling. The e-power is genuinely good. But not currently cheap enough for this thread.
