We Buy Any Car Valuation, Surely Not?.....

There is a thread on the Porsche forum where a chap is trading his 911 in, WBAC offered £8k more than the avg of the others, about £7k more than official Porsche dealers.
WBAC seems to out bidding everyone at the moment.
playing the market, massive shortage of stock that's increasing in value monthly, buy it all WBAC seems to out bidding everyone at the moment.
Sale of my 2019 Kia Picanto GT Line S agreed via Wizzle on Saturday, confirmed this morning that it's being collected on Wednesday.
Valuations were all over the place for this car, from £8.5k to £12.1k. The higher end valuation seemed a bit OTT to me, as similar cars are being advertised on Autotrader by dealers for £12.5 to £13k.
Having nearly 5 years warranty left, it's a pretty safe bet for a dealer, but I'd expect them to want to make at least a grand profit.
WBAC "offered" £11.6k. I settled on £11.5k from a dealer that will collect, pay instantly, and doesn't charge any fees.
I'm happy with the deal. I bought it as a pre-reg with 70 miles on the clock 2 years ago, for £14.1k, list price at the time was £15.5k.
Just over £100 a month to run what was effectively a brand new car - not bad.
I've "downgraded" (in price) to a 2012 C class coupe for £6k, so I think I did the deal at the right time.

Very pleased with my recent sale to Motorway, 2012 Mini, paid £6,000 18 months ago, got £5,800 back.
Was overdue a service plus had a couple of corroded alloys but otherwise fine.
WBAC and Arnold Clark offered £4,500 and £4,700 respectively so Motorway were substantially above them.
Process was :
1. register on their website and receive a general guide price
2. use their (fairly crap) app which walks you through a series of photos to take from different angles
3. speak to their rep, declare any damage / issues and then receive adjusted price
4. they run a 1 day auction and their panel of dealers bid on the car
5. at 3pm on the same day I received a message with a commitment to buy at the quoted price. You can back out at this stage if you wish
6. After accepting, the dealer arranged for a third party courier to come. The chap arrived by train and walked to the house. He spent 10 minutes or so just checking the car over and looking for any additional issues.
7. Once the courier was happy he phoned the dealer who released payment.
All communication mainly done over whatsapp or text. Such a simple process, although obvs subject to you being straight with them and declaring any obvious issues.

I found the app quite difficult to use for taking the pics. After submitting them, I got an email asking me to retake 5 of them. Now I was able to use my proper camera, and submit them via email. Shame there's no option to take the pics with a proper camera first time around.
I did get an offer from their daily auction, but it was £250 lower than the offer I got 2 days later via Wizzle.

It's certainly a seller's market at present, I'm still in shock at how much I got for mine. Obviously it depends on the car but typical popular cars seem to get snapped up for strong money.

Cazoo offered me 16k for my golf GTD estate less than 2 weeks ago, reran the valuation and now it’s 13250.
Is this a sign the madness is subsiding?
Id say so.Is this a sign the madness is subsiding?

After I sold to Motorway, I got a text saying that they had an increased offer, this time it was £5,850 (although that was subject to assumptions so would have been lower in the end).
I expect WBAC is purely based on an algorithm and there must be an element included where if you check your car too often, the system automatically discounts your offer.

we have bought two cars from BCA last day or so, their fees are about £300 per car so even if they dont make much on the chassis they get admin fees still

All being well, we’re having a new car delivered in December. I’ve been checking valuations of current car every fortnight.. all going up and up but just the last two weeks it shed a few weeks of gains (£12k April 2021, £15k august, £16k sept now £15k Oct - 2015 Q3 auto). All via WBAC and tracking so I know how much we need to finance in the new one.
I read above that WBAC may spot frequent repetitive asks for the same reg and impact pricing downwards accordingly if they get a hint you really want to sell. Is this the case and am I better off not valuing / valuing elsewhere or is this just wider winter downward pressure per some of the comments above?
Thanks so much!!
I've been tracking my Golf's WBAC/Cazoo etc value for months & they all crept up until about 2 weeks ago then most except Cazoo dropped 1-2k (car roughly 26/7k) Cazoo started dropping this week so I kept the best one until just before the 7 days offer expired & pulled the trigger. It's being collected next Friday & I'll report back if they give what they said they will.I read above that WBAC may spot frequent repetitive asks for the same reg and impact pricing downwards accordingly if they get a hint you really want to sell. My car is being picked up on Tuesday and space around where it's being collected is very limited so don't want to have the road blocked for a long period!
I have just sold my car. A four year old Mondeo Vignale with 55k on the clock. I ordered a new car back in May, with the car initially due in July. Since June onwards the delivery of the new car has been regularly put back, but it is finally ready to collect this week. So since May I have been keeping a close eye on the price for my Mondeo from the usual online site.
Prices did seem to plateau a month or so ago, with a few sites starting to drop in value recently. In the end I sold through Motorway and got a price that was inline with what I would have been looking for privately, and well over their initial estimate, also well over the WBAC online value. I did offer it to the garage I am buying the new car from, they made a very low PX offer so didn’t seem overly interested despite having a large used car section within their group.
Car was collected this morning by a chap from a fairly local garage, money transferred to me once he had checked the car over. All in all it seemed a very easy way to sell a car. It helped my car was pretty much immaculate, the chap who collected said his garage just focus on the well presented cars that appear on sites like Motorway and ignore the rest of the cars available.

My car has just been collected by Cazoo. Painless process with quick inspection of the car, documents and ID and payment was made before the car had been loaded onto the transporter. Was a good price and service.
What was the inspection like with Cazoo? I've had 2 experiences with WBAC. 1 - the guy didn't care and just paid. 2 - you'd have thought I was selling the car as showroom fresh when it was 8 years old.Jonno02 said:

Cazoo's definitions of condition levels is detailed on their website and sent to you if you decide to proceed. Even excellent condition allows for some chips. I received payment in full after a cursory walk round. LAST year I attempted to sell an excellent condition 5,000 mile F-type to WBAC. They tried to knock me down for many paint chips though they mostly wiped off with my finger being dirt. A couple were harder to shift and I didn't have cleaning materials so she listed them as chips. I drive my car away and sold it to Motorway for more than the original WBAC offer, without fees and with money paid before driving away.

Painless. I made sure my car was spotless inside and out and was open about a dent on the door and paint chips on rear bumper. I’d classed the car in good condition based on the Cazoo guidelines. Money was in my account before he drove off the driveway.moonigan said:

That's good. Just looked at it, my car seems to fall between their definition of good and average. There's a few more clear coat scratches than they allow (...stupid black car) but nothing like chips in the windscreen of scuffs on the alloys like they say for average. Quite difficult when your car falls between two definitions without being able to add/remove pieces of damage on their quote. My car I described as excellent. The bloke who picked it up asked me what grade I'd given it when getting the price so I told him "excellent" and he didn't comment so I assume all was good. The bodywork, wheels and interior upholstery were unmarked but did have a very small mark on the dash where a long piece of timber had slipped forward and caught the top of the dashboard but he didn't comment on it so I felt justified in my estimation of the condition.
