Reading is an appalling place to buy a car from a main dealer in general. There's always a substantial "Thames Valley Tax" on the prices (as with tradesmen, they all think everybody is rolling in it), it's always cheaper to buy from elsewhere, Swindon being the closest place where main dealers offer the best prices in my experience. This annoys me because I live in Reading.
Absolutely, all of the dealers (Honda, VW, Skoda & BMW in particular) I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with in the RG area have been useless / rude / disinterested. I live 20 mins outside of Reading, but my recent cars have been from Stockport, Preston, Canterbury and Basingstoke. The same applies for servicing....i've saved hundreds over the years driving 30mins down the road. What is it with Reading...??Panthro said:
I'm collecting mine from Wolverhampton on Friday. Paperwork is signed and I've requested the telematics to be ready for when I collect. Fingers crossed.
The only issue now is that my charger isn't due for installation for another 3 weeks.
I've gone for a Powerverse VCHRGD Seven charger. £699 installed. I don't need it to work with Octopus as I'll be using Eon Next Drive.
Out of curiosity, why did you go for EON?The only issue now is that my charger isn't due for installation for another 3 weeks.

Octopus does 7.5p, 31p, 42p on Intelligent
Eon does 8p, 32p, 44p on Next Drive.

You get an extra hour off peak with Eon, I'm currently with Eon and have always had good service from them, and I'm not going to lose sleep over 1 or 2p per KWh. Octopus does 7.5p, 31p, 42p on Intelligent
Eon does 8p, 32p, 44p on Next Drive.
Did they call today? I’m hoping for a phone call tomorrow… I’ve been chasing a lot, they said aim 25th for me too but not heard a peep.. getting quite concerned tbh.. I have another vehicle that needs to be returned, work for the NHS and need a car for work, so can’t be without plus I’m away over Easter.. its getting tighter every day to organise all the above…

Any more info why?
It's not fast or efficient. I've done nearly 500 miles and averaging 3 miles per KWh. The adaptive cruise leaves a massive gap in even in it's lowest setting so I feel like a lane hogger.
The safety systems are always having a panic, couple of phantom stops because of things in laybys, the car 'detected' I had left the road on a country road yesterday.
it's dull. There's not a single exciting thing about the car.
On the plus side -
It's very cheap.
I don't have to stop at petrol stations anymore.
It's quiet, comfortable and easy to drive.
The stereo is pretty good for a base model.
Free charging at work.
It has replaced a Leon, which was also pretty dull.

It's the centre of a huge catchment area of people with more money than sense. Folks from places like Henley and Wokingham, and the surrounding West Berks/South Oxon chi-chi villages, like wot where that Kate Middleton comes from, have to come here for main dealers, for example. So the normally financed amongst us who actually live here get turned over because the dealers see the whole region as Treasure Island, and act like pirates accordingly.
IMHO.
Really, that should work to your advantage - if the dealers are mostly being hosed with cash from wealthy locals they'll have the capacity be able to take a hit on the odd deal. Especially if you buy on finance.IMHO.

There used to be a Honda dealer in Bracknell that I bought a Civic from years ago. They weren't terrible but I didn't have a great experience with them. McLaren Ascot took that building over and they moved nearer to Bracknell town, and now it's a Sytner Select. IMHO.

Well I've never had that experience, perhaps I'm just a st negotiator. The attitude here seems to be that they don't want to sell you anything, and if they do there's barely any deal to be had, take it tor leave it, another mug will be along any minute. And yes I've bought on finance a few times. Having learned from experience I'm going to cast my net wider to other towns next time I'm in the market.
To be fair, years ago I was gently taken by the arm and guided to the door by a Cheshire county town VW dealer when I asked about discount. No such issue with the VW dealer in Wigan.

I think that Bracknell dealership is very close to Honda UK's head office? I recall a lot of comments on Honda forums when it closed.pti said:
Changed over an insurance policy today from an old SLK to the Honda. 7 months to run from date of collection (Saturday) and only an additional £54. I think the original policy was low-£300s.
Pleased with that. Insurer is Hastings, if anyone's interested.
How did you get Hastings to do that? Their online system will not quote if the reg cannot be found from DVLA. On phoning, they could not do it there either with the reg but without a DVLA lookup. I do have a Hastings Online policy.Pleased with that. Insurer is Hastings, if anyone's interested.

I called up, gave my reg and vehicle details and verbally accepted the increased cost. Documents received, policy comes into force this weekend. I realise this may not be much help to you but it's exactly what I did!

Not many cars exciting now, I have a motorcycle for excitement, try one. The Honda is good for the money and ferrying me/family round in comfort and safety, drives well and surprisingly quick bottom end. range a bit iffy but even on 200 mile trip to daughters uni should be ok with fast charge 60 miles before hers and 60 miles after. Been thinking about taking my motorbike test for the last few years, probably should do it. I've got other cars, fortunately so this doesn't have to be that exciting.
