They can't even get the address of their website right.Have you enquired to find out more about it? Current mot runs till October, a list of advisories to do with rust, suspension and brakes, have they sorted these, as they were flagged 18000 miles ago... I'd want near as dammit 12 months ticket on a banger but Accords are generally OK.
What happened to the suburu?

I will ask them some questions. It’s probably a £1k car at best. The Subaru was a disaster tbh. It was missing paperwork as it was an import. The tax wasn’t correct and the seller was just odd and vague with questions. It was a shame really as the car was quite good.Have you enquired to find out more about it? What about http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2022052762...
The last couple of cars have been big petrol lumps, is that what you want?

I’m not fussed on engine. I’ve had a few cars with 2.5 v6 a few 3.0 and a brief 5.0 V8. I usually find that say the 2.4 Honda engine is a well engineered engine that suits the car. Nothing worse than a small engine in a big car. I would get a diesel but it would have to be pre dpf.The last couple of cars have been big petrol lumps, is that what you want?

That is a shame. I will have to keep a lookout for a local Accord Tourer. I may invest in a cat lock.
If it's like a cat lock on a lexus RX it won't deter them. Remember these are people who will rock up in broad daylight with a cutter and car jack, an extra minute isn't going to deter them. Then you have a ruined £300+ lock to go with a ruined £500+ cat and exhaust system. Mr.Nobody said:
An auto. Make sure the gearbox is good, these can go bang at around that mileage. Car's an economic write off if that happens. Ask me how I know. If it checks out but hasn't got a gearbox service (oil change) in the history, budget to get one done. Will be a few hundred quid. Also check suspension for noises, these cars (especially with the heavy diesel engine) go through suspension like toddlers through a bag of Wotsits.
I'd see these a bit of a risky poroposition with your budget - repairs are generally expensive. I'd personally favour a Toyota or Honda of some kind at your budget - and a petrol one at that. At old age and highish mileage these Volvos aren't the "cast from granite" immortals some people make them out to be, which is why they're becoming a rare sight on the roads...
How's about taking the Scenic route?

Or one of these (unfashionable but reliable, huge inside, and cheap to run):

Or something a bit more conventional:

The 308 doesn’t look too bad. As I say it’s only for work so I would rather buy on condition and previous maintenance than brand. The Scenic looks a good option too. The Volvo has sold. The seller has just text me to tell me. There is of course the Rover 75 that is local that a owners club member owned. Also check suspension for noises, these cars (especially with the heavy diesel engine) go through suspension like toddlers through a bag of Wotsits.

So a few of the cars I was looking at got snapped up. So I’m still on the hunt.

I honestly think you need to steer clear of prestige motors at this budget, OP. That BMW and the Outback are potentially ruinous in terms of running costs and repairs. You just need something basic to minimise those risks - Focus, Astra, Scenic, Japanese things like Avensis, Mazda 6 etc.
That Meriva seems worth a look. IIRC they were built at one of GM's "good" factories, and are a quality car. Have been tempted myself in the past.
P.S. the Scenic I linked to last week is still up on Autotrader. Looks like great value for what you need.
